Very fun so far. Interesting world, fast paced. I guess it misses the droll humor of an Abercrombie hence it isn't truly as great but apart from that pretty much firing on all cylinders. And it did what the best fantasy novels do quite quickly, pulled me into the world right away.

Very good so far. The pace of the dialogue is truly a delight. And while i guess part the usual fantasy tropes make their appearance ( goblins, “ elves”, magical creatures, witches) the manner and originality of the angle these themes are “ hit” really are a delight in their inventiveness. I guess the “ hype” is deserved.

More technical then the series and markedly different. While this original story feels more organic and its cultural background makes it more interesting ( in my opinion) I must say that the overemphasis on hard science was akin to reading the science and technology section of the Economist at times ( for some a great thing for other less so). This book is very much " hard" science fiction.

While this might suffer from a lack of originality they story still very much hits with me personally since i have always been fascinated my the mongols and other nomadic people . This story clearly takes inspiration from the hordes conquest of China. For anybody with a fondness of that history and fantasy i still think this is worth a read.

Great read so far, especially enjoying the part around the prison city.

Really fun and quite original take on the theme of dragons and the steam punk victorian type fantasy. Fun characters, good plot development, interesting world building. Seems like this is the start of something special that Ryan created here.

Its quit good. As coming of age fantasy stories it one of the most cool and engaging ones yet. I have a feeling i am quit going go like mr Ryans work.

I am sure this is an often heard complaint but the whole thing is getting a bit long, even for me. It’s not that the writing is bad it’s just that the whole thing becomes a tad bit boring ( which is a shame and does a disservice to the overall saga). I think i will think more fondly of it when i finish it but its overstaying it welcome unfortunately.
