the repetition (words, phrases and plot). so many words and so little has happened. i really really want to like this. the author has a new novella coming out tmrw and i wanted a taste of her writing style beforehand but holy shit.

respectfully, i need authors to find different ways to describe a change in a characters facial expression outside of "their lips curled" i am so serious :") once or twice is fine but dozens? also, fog/mist does not a gothic make. i'd argue this is closer to a dark academia than a gothic (so far). i do find the writing lovely and the horror elements quite creepy.

and just how exactly am i ever supposed to find a piece of media/art that replicates the feelings of reading this short story collection ever ever again

fully realized, morally gray/black characters (minus that one guy <3). the architecture/atmosphere!!! prose is dense (info dump~y) but w notes accessible and quite pretty. vibes > plot (bc what is the plot tbh). adore this. my greedy ass can't put this down (on brand thematically).

the false sense of security mitova gave by dropping me off into a chapter about a cute little coffee shop with a charming found family after making me cry through a character's traumatic arc in n*zi germany only to make me have to now deal w my biggest opp emerick. i have no idea why i haven't like him since page one but <3

girl, i haven’t picked this up in days. the first half was was fucking amazing. atmospheric, well paced, (perhaps pretentious) but pretty prose. perfect genre blend of nautical gothic, fantasy, horror and mystery. now i’m just bored and annoyed 3
