i want to buy this book; so many interesting things that i want to annotate / remember

standout topics:
-evolution of sleep, poses question of why sleep evolved but also why (when considering all the benefits sleep offers) species even wake us at all

-REM sleep has evolved independently multiple times, (like eyes) implying it's importance

-when sleep deprived, species seek nrem first then rem in subsequent days

easing back into reading / audiobooking

apparently being a morning person / night owl has a genetic component !! so its not JUST bc of my poor choices i'm fighting my predisposition to sleep later but get punished by societal work culture starting early🥀

also its easier to recover from jetlag when travelling westward vs eastward bc our circadian rhythm is tech longer than a day

im scared to learn more about how im (not so slowly) killing myself via sleep deprivation

after 2 years i'm reading this again

very insightful so far ! a crazy reminder that 3 centuries ago, medicine was less credible than faith healers and it was mostly trial and error LOL look how far we've come (but also look at how some things havent changed)
