3/4 finished. It’s a good build up and mystery. Idk where the book will finish and am very intrigued. There’s some cheesy part but it’s cute. We still need to learn what’s going on with Ianto, is Myrddin a fraud, the widow, was Blackmar under a spell and FK/Angarad stuff.

So Ianto is the Fairy King. Myrddin tried to ward his house against him but the upkeep wasn’t maintained so FK took over I. Who’s the ghost/girl. Where’s the Mistress. Will we shift from the real world war into the Fair Folk world and not care about the war anymore? What up with the basement?? Also can Preston swim?

So who benefits from Mryddin being a fake? His family? publishing firm? why pick him out of all the people in the Bottom Hundreds? What’s going on with the window? She’s from the north, did she help write? Does she exist? Is she sick or already dead. Also Ianto he’s a sketchy dude. I still think the Fair Folk are real & maybe Myrddin wrote about his time there and their stories but also is the Fairy King real?

The Shepard could’ve been done better but whatevs. Ianto is suspicious could he be the Fairy King? Curious to learn more about Preston and his background. Oh and Effy’s mother is a loser but what happened to her father??

I think Myrddin must’ve left his family and lived mostly in the Fae realm or with the Fair Folk. There’s some friction between the son and his father and Ianto and Preston. Preston seems to believe in the Fae but is also cagey. I’m sure he’ll have a tragic back story too and that how Effy will bond with him. “You aren’t like how I thought you were”.

Surprise of the chapter Effy won the contest. Idk if we’re supposed to believe she’s good bc ya she’s smart enough to get it but it’s not what she wants to do. Also sounds like Effy was a semi willing participant with her advisor. And the Dean knows and there wasn’t “legal” action so who knows where that’s gonna go. Also is her family wealthy?

I like it so far. There’s some flaws like constantly bringing up Corbenic. Her amputation is interesting. There’s a war between her country and the neighboring country. It seems set in an earth like world compatible to many early 1900s with cars and phones and rifles. I think we’ll find out magic is real and I wonder how that’ll be included. Also is the boy and blow off character or will he become MMC?

So Silas will go to the Guild and meet Alina there. I don’t think the Father will be the big bad of this book or at least not until the end

I’m getting “I hate all men” toxic vibes so far

I’m not enjoying this part of the story. Inez IS an idiot and giving “modern woman in historical setting” but can’t back anything up. She wants to rush into dangerous situations without any skill to back it up like what is she gonna do paint them?

Is Inez an idiot!!!!! What could she possible add to the search for Elvira??? Is she suddenly Sherlock Holmes?!

I understand Ricardo’s frustration but at the same time he didn’t tell her the truth. He has no relationship with his niece to build a foundation of trust on. So of course she’s going to believe and trust her mother who is also boosting her up instead of tearing down her confidence. This part is really frustrating to read.

So the mother is alive… I’m suspicious of her
