Totally engrossing. Sometimes feels like being part of a gapers delay but author is so reflective and kind to the people and circumstances in his story that ultimately just feel grounded and embodied.

Storyline set in two different times actually works really well. Hint of suspense in each but motivation to keep reading comes more from characters and language. Writing is stunning - laugh out loud funny, then insightfully nuanced.
