The name changes are a good way to show Lizzie’s shifting identity throughout the different stages of pre- and post-weight loss.

This feels like disjointed short stories or personal essays - each chapter packs a punch with its own theme, but very hard to follow.

I feel like the inner monologues that are supposed to represent her insanity are a bit overdone.

I’m starting to feel like Mona Awad’s books follow the same inner dialogue formula….the part before the main character’s transformation reads like an uninterrupted stream of consciousness, and then the part after where the main character goes insane is characterized by the shortest sentences and as many repeated words possible.

I have never seen a more “women written by men” example in my life.

Nothing happens in the book except for a random group of boys stalking these sisters and doing weird shit because they’re obsessed.

Beth Evasiw
Beth Evasiw is 39% done with The It Girl
So far:
- I’m not very sympathetic for Hannah, who just strikes me as a wallflower type living In April’s shadow. She broke girl code too which grosses me out, and her putting Will on a pedestal is sickening
- Neville seems creepy, but I wonder if he had some sort of tie to April
- maybe Hugo did it? He’s been flying under the radar for a while now

Beth Evasiw is 59% done with The Kind Worth Killing (Henry Kimball/Lily Kintner, #1)
I know that I’m halfway done, but the narrator switch just lost me completely. Unless there’s some sort of crazy twist, like Brad being some psychopathic genius or Ted faking his death then I don’t see how this can be salvaged. The only other option is Lily and Miranda having some epic face off, which is still anticlimactic to me compared to what the book originally led with.

So far it’s not bad, but I feel like the dialogue drags on longer than it has to.

Weird that nearly a third of this book is already done and I’ve just been reading about 10 murders that have nothing to do with the main plot.

Beth Evasiw
Beth Evasiw is 47% done with The Guest List
So far:
- Olivia has done something bad to (or with?) her older hookup, involving a lot of blood
- Something happened between all the guys and Charlie at the bachelor party
- Hannah will likely be important in this because she hasn’t said anything incriminating yet
- It seems like Will and Johnno have a tight bond…or history?

I find it interesting how the author chose to write the story from multiple different viewpoints. It’s a little disorienting at first, but it’s like she’s adding different puzzle pieces with each POV.

So far, the book is setting up obvious clues pointing to Jack being extremely controlling/territorial over Grace. If there isn’t some sort of twist where she’s actually the one in control or something, I swear to God….

This is probably a good book and I bet it has a great ending, but god I cannot stand any of these characters. It’s told from two different perspectives - Hanna, the psycho child who is weirdly obsessed with her dad, and Suzette, who pretty much just had Hanna to make her husband happy. It pisses me off how the both of them are just so desperate for Alex’s attention. Maybe I’ll finish this some other time.
