Frantic. Bizarre. Disturbing. How is this going to end because it’s already a dumpster fire? 😭 Subject matter is crazy but writing style is McCurdy’s good ole reliable dark humor.

Not a fan of how politics were heavily emphasized from the very beginning but I’m hanging in there since I saw so many moms recommend this book.

Enemies to lovers. I’m calling it already 👏

Very well written. Coming of age during a harsh outbreak of leprosy. I can’t even imagine being ripped away from parents at such a young age.

Bro. I’m almost finished and I’m waiting to see if there’s gonna be a plot twist. My first “dark romance” and I’m like 🤨 I knew what I was signing up for but at the same time…there’s gotta be better writing out there than this.

Bruh. Rowan and Aelin gotta get some alone time at some point, right? RIGHT?! Ahhhhh 😫

I mean, it’s not the worst but it’s also not the best. Why couldn’t we just get a brief “this is what Chaol and Nesryn are up to” instead of additional lore to keep up with? Maybe this is more about exploring exotic places in order to branch out from Ardalan only but I was satisfied with Terrasen being the main secondary place. Oh well, at least it’s a tandem read!

This is just me, but how realistic is it that someone who fights crime for a living as part hacker and part mercenary also enjoys stalking women? It’s a virtuous career by day and creepy home intruder by night. It does track that he has an odd physical appearance, so maybe his looks have been a dating hindrance in the past. Guess we’ll find out.

Already, this book is flowing together so nicely. I’m saddened by the latter parts of the previous book because of Dorian’s current state but I’m remaining hopeful for him. Also, does Aelin ever get a successful long term relationship with? Cuz I thought Rowan was a good contender but maybe she’s destined to be single forever?

I’m trying my best to understand why Manon Blackbeak has a part in this book. 😬

Holl up. Wait a minute. I knew this series had witches in it but for some reason, the ability to actually fly as a witch wasn’t on my radar 🤣

Peep the references to the witches and the Asterion horses 😉 And Calaena’s passion for fashion. Now I can see why her debt with her mentor got so outrageously high.

Sweet little Fleur…what do you think you’re doing trying to renovate an entire dilapidated house off of a maid’s salary? That’s the only unbelievable part thus far, even though she did confess to heaping credit card debt. Other than that, I have a feeling that Adam is a red herring…but we shall see.

I am so freaking invested in this storyline! My gosh, I gotta give it to Sarah J. Maas for her ability to draw the reader in. So excited to see what happens！

The home remedies of 1930s Kentucky were wild! Like did I just read that an old lady placed two pebbles UNDER her eyelids before going to sleep to “help” with her dry eyes? And what’s this talk of rubbing animal innards on the gums of your teething child? Or drinking water from a shoe? The world was a crazy place before people understood medicine and science 😂

Why can’t I stop crying! 😭 Like I’m literally crying and sobbing and blowing my nose from the feels that caught me off guard. I had to go hug my husband, explain why I was crying at 2 AM, and give a brief summary of the sentimental happenings in my book. (This man prolly thinking “wow I got a crazy one from the loony bin”) But for reals, this ending is gonna have you kicking, screaming, crying, & smiling!

Hmm I’m a little nervous that this book isn’t going to get more compelling but I’ll be more patient! Something about the MC instantly clicking with the male protagonist is just odd.

Oh my GOSH I am getting tired of Malia!! I love her redemption arc, I truly think she has come around, but for the love of all things good, bring Auren and Slade back into the main focus!! 😭

Alright so I’m surprised that I don’t 100% hate reading from Malina’s POV. Her redemption arc at first was an absolute eye roll but I’m finding more and more compassion for her as she develops throughout. And who woulda thought she’d meet her own “special someone” along the way? 👀

I’m so happy for Auren and for how far she’s come. There’s been a ton of character development in this book and I’ve loved reading more about her past as well as Slade’s. The side characters are memorable and distinct and my worry over switching POVs too often has passed. The author keeps everyone interesting enough to warrant the switch and Auren is still the main character narrating. Love!

So I’m getting a bunch of Slade background and POV and it’s great but I miss Auren’s POV! And apparently why he next chapter is Osrik’s POV. The first chapter of the book was Queen Kaila. It makes sense to include all of them at the moment because of the geographic differences but I’m hoping that these differing POVs don’t get diluted like some of the other books I’ve read. Still an interesting read!

Oh my goodness. I didn’t realize this series could have so many villains to hate! For my own sanity:

For the love of all things good, can Mist STFU? It’s people like her that just can’t be redeemed at all. To think that Auren wanted to save her is maddening!

Simply adorable! This is such a cute spinoff and the characters’ personalities are woven perfectly into the kiddo versions of themselves.

Saw the physical books in Barnes and Noble today and was so tempted to buy at least the final fourth book in hardcover. Call me dumb but I was surprised to see the genre as simply “romance.” Excuse me, but this is romance adventure fantasy. I’m so excited for Auren to get stronger and to continue learning about herself. And of course the foreboding “bad boy” is the love interest teehee 🤭

Audio listening to this was a good idea for once. It’s been a while since I actually enjoyed a narrator and it’s fitting that it’s the author herself since this is a memoir. I love learning about neurodivergence and mental disorders so this seemed like a good pick. Hearing about her mental issues as a child is so crazy because our instincts can drive us but they don’t define us.

I’m FLYING through this book because I’m so invested in unraveling (pun intended) the mysteries surrounding Auren and her origins. Homegirl has some serious Stockholm’s syndrome but as I learn more about her past, I feel more torn about her pre-royalty relationship with Midas. Like does he truly love her? Or does he simply want power? It’s so hard to tell but true love is freeing and his “love” is not.
