So far, Michiko Aoyama's novel stands as a hopeful, sentimental piece, which I really do appreciate in a book. I find the many storylines that connect really show the impact of small things and instinctive kindness, which is such a sweet theme. I am aware of different cultural normalcies evident in novels, but the description of the librarian, Ms Komachi, is off-putting and insensitive.
