I’m enjoying this book! Great writing, great characters

Great engaging beginning! I also love a period piece

I’m checking out. This story just isn’t engaging for me. I’m listening to the audiobook and love the reader but the plot is dragging for me.

I guess I’m in the thick of the drama now. I have to say I don’t feel transported to the setting and there is a disconnect with what she describes and how Clara interacts with her environment.

The romance dynamic is starting to develop. But I had to put up with more historical stereotypes, fainting and corsets being the bad guy again 🙄 These comments are not historically accurate and don’t add to the plot. A big complaint I have is that I feel like the author has to over explain how things are, the reader isn’t allowed to draw their own conclusions about the social climate. It’s annoying.

Couldn’t help but major eye roll at the opening chapter corset talk. Tightlacing being the topic of older ladies’ conversation.

So far so good. I appreciate the research to describe accuracy in high status homes and the hierarchy of the classes.
