I’m combating a reading slump with an old favorite. I never actually finished the series, so I am pretty psyched to see how it ends.

I am really liking this one. It has shades of Outlander and Wuthering Heights and is oh so gloomy. Maybe I am just a fool for old English country houses? 😂

Every time I return to these books, I fall back in love with them. This is serious comfort reading.

Here I am again, reading romance. I must be on an unconscious roll. The world-building in this is good. Greek / Roman myth retellings always catch my attention…even if they fail to keep it. We will see.

I rarely read romance, but romance with a Dexter twist? I have to admit: I’m a little intrigued. Though I will admit I wouldn’t have picked this up if it hadn’t been readily available from Libby. It’s good so far, not like in your face romance, which I appreciate.

This has been on my TBR for about five years now. I once said, after reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, that I wanted to read all the magical realism genre I could find. Who knows? This might be the year. It reads a lot like Marquez so far! It’s a bit quirky, but I am enjoying it.

Honestly, so far this memoir is a bit dark for my tastes, but I do like her theorizing about what it takes to write a memoir. It is making my English nerd self happy.

I have no idea how Kova thought up the premise for this novel. The tarot card premise is so freaking good. Clara is such an amazing protagonist- mouthy and sneaky and clever.

Life is always somehow frenetically busy about the time I find a good book. This one is worth hiding in a corner for five minutes to read at EVERY available opportunity. 😅😂

I don’t know if this is what you would traditionally call “beach reading,” but it will have to do. 🤣 I love it so far. Excuse me while I sip my coffee, watch the waves, and read about a scary, dark version of Hogwarts.

I really like the cozy atmosphere of this book. Maybe it is because I am a gardener irl, but I love the Garden Kingdom and the way it is portrayed as a land of plenty. I am finding the pacing in the book a bit clunky (slow mostly), but the setting is lovely.

I like this one so far. It’s got great world building- a kingdom protected from dragons by a magical shield is definitely a new fantasy setting to me. I also like that there is a great deal of sarcasm and humor mixed into the dialogue. It’s make for good reading.

Okay… this book might be picking up a bit, but I have to be a hypocrite for a minute. I HATE books that feel the need to insert ye old English spellings for pointless things. Just because Chaucer spelled it “dae” instead of “day” DOESN’T mean we need to in the year 2026. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I am really having trouble with this one. This is yet another book that I am reading because social media hyped it (joke’s on, social media though, since I now refuse to participate). Anyway, I am not feeling any sort of connection to Raeve, and when you are not connected to the main character, a book is dull to say the least. Not ready to DNF but getting close to it.

I am honestly a little tired of the mafia Don / sadistic man who is emotionally damaged but apparently still attractive to the young girl who knows no better plot line. It’s a bit tired at this point. Yet I am still reading, which is a testament to how well Keri Lake writes.

Good so far. I’m a fool for a good gothic and an even bigger fool for a foggy seaside New England setting.

This is still turning out to be a really valuable book. Honestly, however, I am getting a little tired of the sports analogies.

A little self-help is always a good thing. I like this book so far. I get annoyed at books like this that have “homework” that they warn you to do before moving on. This book has none of that, and so far it has been a good (and useful) read.

This is one of those books where you think things can’t get any worse for the heroine…and then they do…repeatedly. I can’t put it down because at this point I just need ANSWERS!

I am starting to realize that this book is highly addictive. It’s freaking dark and gory and enthralling…

This is such a sentimental read but not in a corny, Hallmark movie kind of way. This book is so outside my comfort zone but also good.

I am thinking, even though I am barely at page 200, that this might be the best book I read this year.

Between the Jane Eyre, Margaret Atwood, and Harry Potter vibes, this book is speaking my language.

Really not thrilled with this one. I am speed-reading to get it over with at this point.

This is dragging a bit in the middle. I feel bad for every character but in different ways. I don’t know, this part of the book feels very full of ennui.

I freely admit it…I saw a reel about this book. I was interested. I am really just kind of creeped out so far, but it’s (strangely) hard to put down.

I like this book less than the first one in the series. This book has kind of a rushed, desperate feel that makes me anxious as I read it. I know it’s about (slight spoiler warning) the end of the world, but I don’t really want to read a book that makes ME feel like it’s the end of the world.

I am still pleasantly surprised by this book. The themes are pretty mundane- accidental pregnancy, disapproving parents, familial guilt - but they are also really relatable. It’s been an interesting and relaxing read so far.

This is not the type of book I generally pick up, but I am getting a little tired of romantasy (yikes). So far, I am kind of amazed at how good this is. Maybe I need to return to the real (fictional) world every now and again.
