This book is making me literally hurt, but it is an absolutely gorgeous memoir. Such is literature 😅

A story rooted in Dante’s Inferno? Be still, my beating heart!

Every time I pick up a book with a game / competition/ contest premise, I ask myself if that particular plot line is getting a bit old…

Either I am a sucker or it’s not because so far this one is pretty good.

The only word for this book is WEIRD.

I feel almost hypnotized by this book. The writing makes you feel as if you are in the forest with Kimmerer.

Well, I am honestly just kind of bored. This book is really dry.

A crown that requires blood? Well, that’s not the most original plot line, but it has definitely caught my attention. The book’s not bad so far.

I am vacillating between a three star and a four star rating on this one. It is GOOD! I am immersed, but it’s also really predictable. The ending will sway me one way or another.

I’ve had a bit of a love / hate relationship with these types of books (ie dystopian / romance / brave new world mashups) since reading Divergent. I am trying to keep an open mind with this one. It’s a bit simple so far but, thankfully, not awful.

I am so tempted to reread the first book before I dive into this one. Yeah, I only read it like two months ago, but IT WAS AMAZING. Sadly, my need for more of this series is not going to let me.

I am honestly kind of ready to be done with this one. I didn’t expect to suddenly be thrown into a world like the third Hunger Games book ever again…but here it is. That book stressed me out, but this one is even more anxiety-inducing.

This book is making me nervous. Like talk about building tension…this book has it down to a fine art.

I am not sure how so many plot twists can fit in one book. I swear I am shaken every time I pick this thing up.

There is a daylight and dark difference between this book and the last one. This doesn’t even seem like the same author writing. I haven’t been this invested in a book since “The Deathly Hallows.”

I honestly was not a huge fan of the first book in this series, but I decided to give the sequel a chance. I’m glad I did. I’m barely into it and already hooked.

I am really partial to Latin American fiction and even more partial to post colonial gothic fiction. Needless to say, I was really excited to receive an ARC of Cañas from Penguin Random House. So far, this one has been good enough to make me add everything Cañas has written to my Amazon wishlist. 😜

I guess I am on something of a science fiction kick at the moment. Come on though! Who doesn’t want to read a book about sentient dolls whose actions are a metaphor for the destruction wreaked by industrialization? Okay…maybe it’s just me. Anyway, Ishiguro is an amazing writer, and this book is really good so far.

It has been nearly a year since I read any science fiction. I have been fascinated with this book since I saw its title. Mimetics, or the study of memory, has always amazed me. This book hinges towards science fiction horror, along the lines of Jeff Vandermeer. I read the first 80 or so pages in 30 minutes because I literally could not put it down. This is really top notch (and alarmingly plausible) sci-fi.

Arden is such comfort reading. Her writing is hypnotic, her world-building enchanting.

The magic of this book reminds me of the lais of Marie de France. Medieval “France” is truly a mythic place, and Arden’s gorgeous prose only amplifies that.

I started this series during the pandemic. Then, I entered the time warp that is grad school (has it really been six years???). I remember loving the first book, so this is a fun reread. Diana Bishop is like a female Robert Langdon…with magical powers. Very nice combo.

I miss the days when they made everything into a video game. I would totally waste a day (week, month…) playing a video game version of this book. An open world with a Sims style chaos generator… it would be a lovely thing.

When you are so obsessed with a series that you realize you haven’t emerged into society in over a week. 👀

I adore these books. The pacing of this one is better than the last. I am trying to decide which video game this reminds me most of. Zelda? Tomb Raider? Hmmm…

Ooooh, I’ve been waiting for this one. As someone who literally ended her dissertation by writing a chapter on tradwives and who also just canned 23 half pints of strawberry syrup, I feel especially drawn to this book. 🤣

This is one of those books that I desperately wanted to read without even really knowing what it was about. It is good so far in a very Mitch Albom sort of way. “Cozy” is the word I would use to describe it.

Okay, I had been resisting this one because I usually hate books that get this level of hype.

My bad. I am now on the hype train. This is like a zanier, 100 times better version of Ready Player One. SO GOOD

I’m combating a reading slump with an old favorite. I never actually finished the series, so I am pretty psyched to see how it ends.

I am really liking this one. It has shades of Outlander and Wuthering Heights and is oh so gloomy. Maybe I am just a fool for old English country houses? 😂
