The Enright house opens, attracting some small attention, but also people Roark wants. Dom stays in NY to be with Roark over the summer. Roark signs a contract to build a large hotel called the Aquitania, frustrating Toohey, and Dom gloats about it. Toohey secretly gets Roark a commission to do a temple of the human spirit without having the funder look at any of Roarks work, seemingly setting him up to disappoint

A story of Tooheys life. He was always very physically weak but vocally powerful. He transitioned to being interested in religion to sociology to architecture as he grew up. He always had strong aura that made people attracted to him, and those who became friends with him remained so. It was surprising he worked for Wyland considering they strongly disliked each other, but he wrote about architecture so he hired him

Enright shows up and makes Dom tour the Enright house construction since he thinks she hates it. Roark is there, and she loves it, and writes another piece that sounds like slander. Enright seems to be catching on a bit. She likes seeing him at parties knowing only they know about each other. Peter is confused why Dom is helping him while refusing to see him. She tells him just to let it happen

Toohey comes to Doms apartment unannounced. He observes her throwing parties and being social, which is strange for her. He says people are being friends with her almost as revenge since she’s finally associating with them. He says he knows she’s taking commissions from Roark and giving them to Peter, says they have a common enemy. She continues this while sleeping with Roark.

Dom writes about the Enright building in a way that sounds negative but is really very complimentary. Ellsworth visits and asks where she knows him from. He proceeds to tell her all about Roark and how he sees Peter besting him even though he’s mediocre, angering her. Sutton calls Dom and meets with him, convincing him to go with Keating instead of Roark. Sutton tells Roark. Dom goes and sleeps with Roark.

Roark reopens his office after getting the Enright house. He works a ton. He wants to make Dom wait to see him to make her uncomfortable when they meet again, which is why he goes to one of Holcombes events. He finds Dom and she realizes he made the Enright house. They have their strange method of conversation. Roark talks to Sutton and Keating. Dom and Toohey have a weird faceoff where he seems to understand her

Dom returns to NY, almost quitting her job. Toohey visits her and they talk about Roarks new building (they like it). The new builder coalition (Toohey and Keating and a bunch of others) meets for the first time, and Dom crashes the meeting. Keating goes in a cab w Dom and realizes she’s met someone. Dom tells Peter to never let her come back to him because he won’t be able to stop her and she doesn’t want him

Keating reads Cook, which is bad but feels pretentious so he likes it. He spends time with Toohey and Katie, who seems down. Keating wants her to stop working at the day nursery but she really likes it. Keating brings up Roark and Toohey is very curious to learn they know each other, interrogating Peter. Peter and Katie walk together, but Peter is focusing on imperfections. Peter designs a weird house for Cook

Toohey writes a very complimentary article about Keating and sends it to him before publication, but is shot at that afternoon by the sculptor who was turned down for the Cosmo building. Keating and Toohey meet the next day. Toohey is clearly very smart and catches on to Peter quickly, reading through his untruths. Peter likes Toohey, and he suggests a book by Lois Cook. He brings up Katie before Keating leaves

They’re both seemingly happy with the outcome of that night? A few days later Roark gets a letter that Enright wants him to build a building, so Roark leaves immediately for New York. Dom goes back to the quarry but finds he is gone. She is half relieved because she thinks she’ll never see him again and won’t have to become curious, even though she clearly still is

Dom breaks her fireplace to have Roark come fix the marble. He comes over and fixes it, then leaves, frustrating Dom. When the new marble arrives, Roark sends the old electrician to fix it, making her angry. She finds Roark a few days later and demands why he didn’t fix it, to which he implies she wanted him to. He comes to her house that night and rapes her?? But they both somehow knew that’s what they wanted??

Roark starts working at the quarry over the summer. Dom lives a few miles away because Guy owns the quarry. She goes there one day and sees Roark. They both hit it off in their weird way where they do the things they “don’t” like but like because they don’t like it: he looks at her and somehow asserts himself, and she wants to be broken by someone she loathes so that makes her want him

Keating worried that his building wouldn’t win, so he went to Heyers to scare him into retiring, causing his second stroke and death. Guy tells Keat that Heyers left him everything. Keat wins and becomes a massive celebrity. He goes to Roark to bribe him to never talk about his involvement, and Roark says to do the same. Roark gets the bank contract but turns it down due to their requested changes. He leaves NY

Heyer doesnt die so Keating is rude to him. There is a massive building competition and Keating goes to Roark to ask for his help with his building. Roark still has difficulty finding work and is slandered in the AGA magazine. Cameron relapses, and Roark spends 3 days with him until he dies. Keating spends lots of time with both women. He kisses Dom but she barely reacts. He asks her to marry him and she laughs

Roarks adventures with new clients. He gets one to build a filling station down the road from the Heller house. He gets a few clients that come in wanting homes that he won’t do. He drafts a plan for an office building but the board denies it. A store owner comes to him wanting exactly what Roark does. Finally, he builds a home for a family, but the wife hates it, even though the husband loves it

Katie comes over randomly, tweaking out, and asks Peter to marry her now. She’s worried her life is just slipping by and that if they don’t do it now they never will. Peter’s mom spends the whole night berating him, about how he’ll offend guy if he says he’s married and end up jobless. The next day they don’t do it, expecting the other person to drag them and both realizing they’ve missed their shot

Dominique talks with Alvah in her apartment about how she wants perfection or nothing and how she doesn’t like relying on others. Keating has lunch with the Francons, where Guy is obviously trying to set the two up. Dom is fine with doing things with Peter even though she doesn’t have interest, so they see each other a lot.

Roark opens his own office, and does not go back to Snyte. Keating stops by and Roark tells him he’s not interested in joining any of the architectural circles. He tells Cameron of his success. Mike the electrician comes to work on the house. Roark is very happy and engrained in the project. Austen heller loves it and becomes close friends with Roark. Architects slander the house and its design behind closed doors

Keating goes to the Architect guilds presidents party, where he sees Dominique. He has guy introduce him, and she gives him a hard time, wanting him to talk to her legit and not say what he thinks she wants to hear. Roark designs a house on a cliff for Austin Heller that he loves. It’s changed by the chief architect and Heller doesn’t want it, so Roark draws his over the draft. He gets fired but Heller hires him

Roark gets hired on the spot by Snyte, who is looking for a Cameron-like modernist. Builders go on strike, slowing down Francons relationship with Wynand. Keating goes to Katie but she went to her uncle speaking for the strikers, even though he works for Wynand who owns his paper and lots of real estate. The strike ends, and Keating meets Francons daughter, who is gorgeous and writes a piece dissing his work

Francon asks Roark to sketch a building based on Cameron’s but with Francons aesthetic. Roark says he can only do it like Cameron’s, and Francon fires him. Roark applies to many agencies over the summer and fall, including Prescotts, but they all turn him down, citing his dismissal from school and Francon

Keating convinces Francon go let him hire Roark. He finds him and offers him the position, and Roark takes it without a fuss, annoying Keating who expected a battle. Roark helps Keating, but Keating also bosses him around to make up for feeling lesser. Roark likes going to the job sites and makes friends with an electrician by demonstrating his practical knowledge, something the electrician says no architects have

We learn a bit about Morries past work before his teaching days. He worked at a psych ward and learned that people wanted to be seen and noticed. He talks with Mitch about the fear of aging, and about how you should want to go forward and do more, and that you can’t be envious of younger people when you had your time at that age. They talk about money and how everyone wants stuff that never actually satisfies them

Week 5 is about family. Morrie reflects on how he has a wonderful family to support him and how hard it would be without their love, since that’s what it’s all about in the end. Mitch relates to this with his brother having gone through illness without seeking help. Week 6, Morrie is not feeling well, and discusses emotions and living with them fully so you can detach from them once you recognize and feel them.

The next visit, he discusses regrets, and how we’re so focused on the daily mundane we don’t step back to think if we’re doing what actually satisfies us. We learn more about Morries challenging childhood of losing a mother and a polio diagnosis for his brother. The fourth Tuesday Moorie talks about being prepared for death at any time to live truly. He says by learning to die you learn how to live

After a strike puts Mitch out of a job, he goes to see Morrie. Morrie talks about having empathy for all those going through a struggle. Mitch begins visiting regularly on Tuesday. The next visit Morrie talks about feeling sorry for himself in the morning, but stops to enjoy the rest of the day since he’s lucky to have it. While picking up Morrie, Mitch realizes how ill he is

Morrie does an interview on Nightline which catches Mitch’s attention. He goes to visit him in Boston, very aware of how different he is as a person compared to his youthful self that last saw his professor 16 years ago. He talks with Morrie for two hours, realizing how positive he is and how caught up Mitch has become in the rat race of life

A book about Mitch and his favorite undergrad Professor Morrie. Morrie was a sociology professor who was diagnosed with ALS, and who decided to not let it define the end of his life. Mitch wanted to be a musician but had difficulty starting up after college. He became a writer and buried himself with his accomplishments for fear of not “doing it all” before death, not keeping in touch with his professor

Toohey publishes a book on architecture that is well renowned by the public for making it easy to get into the subject and making people feel smart. Henry Cameron has a medical event and Roark closes his office. He gives him a recommendation but Roark destroys it. Peter is 3 years into his job, and his mother has moved in. She hints she doesn’t like Katie, but he goes and sees her and basically proposes to her

A year in New York has Keating doing enough work for Davis to replace him. He also convinces a woman to have his designer make a house for him, causing him to leave the company and for Keating to become chief designer. He has difficulty making his first house and goes to Roark for help. He helps, and Keating fixes it to give it to Francon. Roark and Cameron don’t get a contract they worked really hard on
