Read past Alice background, now up to baseball which might break this series for me lol

I have a complaint and an option to dnf this right now and save about 500 pages of my time well 368, but they are BIG pages. Shortly put: this gives me Catcher in the Rye vibes in a bad way. ALSO it seems anti-psychiatry? Which puts a bad taste in my mouth. Why the lies and sneaking? Why not a compromise? Why is the grandfather the boss in this situation. Interesting, tender, but I will probably donate (was a gift!).

The anti-Louis the XIV mansion with gold and tassels speech should have followed up with a thought from Rachel like um she just insulted my bff PEIK LIN GOH! Does Rachel not realize she is becoming “one of those bitches” she hated by taking advantage of their kindness and hospitality? The real epiphany of this book should have been this take: “Remember who you are- even with others!”

Need to finish so I can get book 3!

So close to finishing it. I did enjoy it!

Not very impressed yet. This will be probably not be good. But I needed a new book, something not Crazy Rich Asians. However, it’s extremely shallow. YA standards (low). And awkwardly predictable. I’m getting The Black Witch vibe already. Yuck!

Rereading this sorrowful story, but I feel there is a big problem. Arius. I feel like we needed to make a big, bad, sensitive man- so the author did something of a cope out- make him have a "demon" inside of him. It's a bit cringe. I understand the anger and the trauma etc. But I think I don't like this type of writing. Will see if there are more issues like this. It make conflict, but feels cheap.
