Extremely not a fan of the overwhelming misogyny, the ableism (though that has a little more nuance with how the story deals with it. A little), the fatphobia, the orientalism, and the way Daenerys' CSA is handled

Planning to at least finish the book though

This is so good

I liked the TV adaptation more to be honest, the storyline is very similar but it expands more on the emotional and thematic beats.

The thing I can't get over is why Jolene (the one Black character, for the record) raped Beth within the first 30 minutes and then it was never brought up again. What the hell

There's some things I really like about this but altogether way, Way too much Eric and Clayton. I would have liked it more if it was literally just about Anna and Ssrin

Okay I got like super overwhelmed with the worldbuilding at first— even though usually I love being thrown into universes and figuring out what’s going on this was a bit much for me. Wasn’t sure I was going to continue, but I got through a couple more chapters and now I’m vibing with it.
Feels a bit like The Broken Earth, but if they hit you with Syl Anagist right away

I watched the tv series a few years ago and I’m very intrigued by the immediate differences!

Impressive how I don’t like a single character in this book but am still interested in all of them.

1. Love the prose, idk how to describe it other than delicious

2. Academics doing logical parkour. This is not a surprise

As expected, I’m enjoying this a lot more than the last one, mostly just because things are actually happening. Loving the development of Essun, especially her being forced to confront the ways in which she perpetuated the same violence done to her onto her daughter. Also the Syl Anagist worldbuilding is a lot to take in but it’s very cool!
