I really loved the line “…but sometimes if you tell a lie enough times it becomes a bit true anyway.”

Man maybe I’m just an old hag but retouch/switch felt like word salad. It sounded beautiful but I couldn’t glean meaning. Perhaps if I reflected further on it and tried to analyze but I’m not in school so I’ll skip.

The Voyeurs was good though I had to get my bearings a little as some stuff seemed more confusing on first glance. I loved the ending with the neighbor feeling so ashamed and the irony of his pleas, “stop looking at me”

The Temple of Horror was a long one. It was a true example of totally requited, unrequited love if that makes any sense at all. I don’t think it was the strongest and with it being, thus far, the longest, I don’t feel like it justifies itself enough. 6.5/10

Scissors was soooo good. Wrought with tension and oozing voyeuristic sexuality, 10/10.

Overall, Gospodar was really intense. I feel so sad for what happened to the main character towards the end, but it was interesting to see that kind of thing from a male perspective as I’ve only ever been exposed to literature, where the female is being assaulted by a male not a male being assaulted by a male. I thought the use of Bulgarian mixed in was incredibly intriguing and at most times very sexy. 8/10

So this is the first story that I’ve actually stopped in the middle of to annotate or to track progress on I suppose. But I really loved this passage on bottom 156-157 top

Reach was fine. Definitely beautifully written, erotic. I enjoyed not knowing the gender of the protagonist/dom.

Mirror, Mirror— woah, what a beautiful and poignant piece of writing. This has been my favorite so far. It’s about a man who hires a trans woman for sex and the entire thing is erotic and endearing from start to both of their finishes. 😏

“Impact Play” was a wild ride, I totally understand some of the things both characters, Gavin and Pilar, were going through but I did have a feeling about the cousin early on 🤧

“Oh, Youth” was interesting though the ending was very “you decide what happens” I feel like, maybe it’s too cerebral for me. 7.5/10

I’m sure Canada is allegorical in nature, a statement on climate change and surviving the impending end times but it was just meh for me. Onto “Oh, Youth”

Last time I picked up this book I had just finished Safeword, which I enjoyed very much. Now it is time for Canada.

This book is so far so cute… some of the stories seem a little bit redundant already but overall still a very sweet read.

I’m not crazy about the authors writing style but someone else mentioned liminal space in their review so now I’m intrigued

I feel like Oliver and Walt have bigger parts to play in all of this.

Fantastic. Riveting stories, beautifully written. My favorite thus far has been Supergiant

This writer is truly remarkable. Setting up the story for Martha to trade noses with Priscilla. I got CHILLS. Love her writing style!

The Bell-Ouija was excellent and fun. I am beginning to suspect Marta knows more than we’ve heard.

I stg if it ends up being Maggie who killed Petra 😤 also, vestibule has been used 3 separate times since the last time I felt like I’d snap if Sager used it again. 🙃 why is this the first book of his I feel like will be a miss?

I’ve been feeling for the past 70 pages that the “Maggie” we know today isn’t herself perhaps.

This is a trending pet peeve of mine but I swear if the author used the word “vestibule” one more time 😤

I cannot get enough of Riley Sager. He’s got that New England style writing though he’s not native to the area and the way he writes is and always been has so easily readable. Love this already

Wow! The first story blew me away— it was absolutely sickening and yet somehow I understood much of what Sally was feeling. Not justifying her, and definitely not Clint, but man that was a wallop of a story!
