“Good-by, Good-by, world. Good-by, Grover's Corners... Mama and Papa. Good-by to clocks ticking... and Mama's sunflowers. And food and coffee. And new-ironed dresses and hot baths...and sleeping and waking up. Oh, earth, you're too wonderful for anybody to realize you.”

“We all know that something is eternal. And it ain’t houses and it ain’t names, and it ain’t earth, and it ain’t even the stars . . . everybody knows in their bones that something is eternal, and that something has to do with human beings. All the greatest people ever lived have been telling us that for five thousand years and yet you’d be surprised how people are always losing hold of it.”

“Three years have gone by. Yes, the sun’s come up over a thousand times... Some babies that weren’t even born before have begun talking regular sentences already; and a number of people who thought they were right young and spry have noticed that they can’t bound up a flight of stairs like they used to without their heart fluttering a little. All that can happen in a thousand days.”

The whole post-love-confession, pre-show-ending situation is a titch too long and is making me start to dislike Dylan lol.

Children never tire of beauty and pleasure. They embrace enjoyment with abandon. They don’t feel guilty about taking time to search for feathers, invent a game, or enjoy a treat.“

“We need to learn the slow habits of loving God and those around us. Like liturgy, the work of cleaning draws much of its meaning and value from repetition, from the fact that it is never completed, but only set aside. Both liturgy and “domestic” work also have an intense relation with the present moment, a kind of faith in the present that fosters hope and makes life seem possible in the day-to-day.”

“Examining my daily liturgy as a liturgy—as something that both revealed and shaped what I love and worship—allowed me to realize that my daily practices were malforming me, making me less alive, less human, less able to give and receive love throughout my day. Changing this ritual allowed me to form a new repetitive and contemplative habit that pointed me toward a different way of being-in-the-world.”

“Eucatastrophe, in Tolkien’s words, is “the good catastrophe, the sudden joyous ‘turn.’ ” In mine, it’s the moment in a story where, when it seems like all is lost, that things are going to be awful forever, that the only possible endings are full of misery and despair, something good happens.” Everything works together for your good! Adore this book for using Anne of Green Gables to illustrate this.

This book taught me that “I know I shall probably never see him again, but I cannot bear to think that he is alive in the world and thinking ill of me.” is from the 1995 BBC Pride & Prejudice and ISN’T IN THE BOOK AT ALL?? Gun to my head I would’ve said that line was in the book even having read it multiple times. WHAT??
