Liking this a lot so far. Would call it Military Fantasy to put it in parallel to Military SciFi.

A medieval style setting, but with magic and all sorts of monsters added, the story predominantly follows the The adventures of The Red Knight and his band of mercenaries with lots of focus on the details of fighting in heavy armor in mostly relatively small scale engagements.

And now all rocks in the area have been blown away because of a minor local asteroid impact but an army vehicle survived.... which appears contradictory....

Hit one of those, uhm a quick google search would have set you straight on this moments: an aquifer is not an cave filled with water... it is a water bearing rock formation that has enough porosity and permeability to carry water and allow water to flow, but it does not have enough space for any kind of reasonable sized organism let alone a human to move around in.
That would be a water bearing cave system.

Have had a couple of moments where I got close to saying: 'OK, this is not for me, let's move on to something else.' However, I am persevering to see if the story gets interesting enough that those earlier moments will stop bothering me. It has a chance to be.
