Maybe ironic that halfway through reading this a group of guys sat at the table next to me at the pub talking about “Dildo Baggins” and “taking it up the arse”?

i love how every book in this series opens with a little passage or paragraph like “ooo… i deign to recall the events for which i write…” in like a goofy and charming way and then this one opens with a whole chapter dedicated to saying “this one is fucked up. i literally wrote those other books to procrastinate writing about this evil goddam case. the DETECTIVE told me he hates this one.” like 😭😭
