Only two chapters in and already Tolkien’s imagery around the nature of evil and the hold of temptation, and more importantly the mysterious goodness at work in the world, is impeccable. I’m caught by something new each time I read it.

Don’t expect regular progress reports, or for this to leave my “currently reading” list anytime soon. My plan is to read a short story or essay here and there between my summer books.

I’ve never read an introduction of which too much discussion would risk spoiling another’s pleasure in reading it. But also this is Gene Wolfe.

This is a fun book to read out loud, even if no is around.

Yea it’s slow going. And for a sixth read, I do not mind.

I never thought I’d read what is an essentially an epic fantasy all about math, but here we are. And it kicks ass

This might end up being Stephenson’s best. All respect to Snow Crash, which is incredible. But this is something different altogether.

We’ll see if this holds out in the back half.
