Fulgrim is warned of that Horus is going to wage war against the emperor and bring about the end of the human race. He ends up fighting the Eldar and chases them off.
Serena is now killing people to use their blood (and other bodily fluids) in her paintings. Lucious catches her and doesn’t seem to mind.

New character: Eldrad Ulthran of the Aeldari foresees the end of the human race brought on by civil war.
Saul Tarvitz and Lucious return and it is now clear the events of this book take place BEFORE Iistvan III.
Fulgrim and the Emperor’s children move on to illuminate a new (uninhabited) planet: Twenty-Eight Four.
Fulgrim can’t sculpt and it makes him mad.

Part 2 ends with Solomon embarrassing Fulgrim by reaching the Diasporex command ship’s bridge first. Surely this won’t be good for him.

Fulgrim is showing particular interest in Laeran themed artwork.

Ferrus Mannus also embarrassed Fulgrim by starting the Diasporex attack too early and without orders to do so.

New characters: Primarch Ferrus Manus (Iron Hands) and Captain Gabriel Santar.

After the Laeran campaign wrapped up, it is revealed that Ferrus and his legion would be joining the Emperor’s Children in their next war.

The story of how Ferrus and Fulgrim met, forging each other’s weapons.

Ferrus is welcomed aboard.

Finally we get a chapter from a Primarch’s point of view!
Fulgrim leads the final assault on Atoll-19. The Laer are beaten back into their central temple.
After breaching the temple, the last of the Laer are found participating in what one can only describe as a “snake orgy” around a sword locked in black stone.
Fulgrim retrieves the stone and the emperor‘s children slaughter the Laer.

This book takes place prior to the events on Iistvan III as Saul Tarvitz is still alive.
The fight against the Laer is almost complete.
Fulgrim is sending Eidolon, Tarvitz and Lucius to rendezvous with the Warmaster when it is over. It appears Solomon is staying with Fulgrim as they head to their next system to conquer.

Following new characters: Julius Kaesoron and Solomon, both from The Emperor’s Children lead by Primarch Fulgrim.

Solomon is leading a battle against the Laer, an alien race, on Atoll 19.

No indication where this falls on the heresy timeline yet but feels pre-Iistvan.

End of Part 2.

Voyen turns on Garro and even draws on him. Though an offense punishable by death, he is spared.

Not much else, just a bunch of survivors lost in space.

Primarch Rogal Dorn arrives to rescue them.

The Eisenstein flees into the warp to escape Horus’s fleet.

The ship is attacked by the reanimated corpses of fallen Astartes. Garro and Grulgor fight for a second time.

The warp begins to rip the ship apart, an emergency breach back into regular space is made.

Eisenstein and its crew are now stranded in the vastness of space with a dead navigator.

Iistvan III has been bombed (again) and the whole planet is dead. Temeter was the only “important” Death Guard killed, to my knowledge.

Qruze, Sindermann, Mersadie and the Saint have arrived onboard the Eisenstein.

Decius needs to be watched, he might still have love for the Warmaster.

End part 1

Still seeing the events of Iistvan III through the eyes of Garro and the Death Guard.

Kaleb and Decius discover their frigate is being armed with the virus bombs.

Yes, things were changing. The shift of mood here on Endurance was slight, but visible to his trained senses, and aboard the Warmaster’s ship, it was more obvious still. Bleak emotions gathered at the edges of his thoughts like distant storm clouds. He could not shake the sensation that something malign was waiting out there, gathering strength and biting its time..”

The Jorgalli world ships is destroyed and the Psykker aboard is killed but not before speaking to Garro.

Garro is commended by Primarch Mortarion himself. Drinking poison in celebration.

Mortarion and Garro will be traveling to the Isstvan system to join forces with the Warmaster.

Thus bring us to the current events of book 3.

There was a time jump backwards, prior to the events on Isstvan III.
Several new characters but mainly following Garro from the Death Guard. (Primarch: Mortarion)
Preparing to attach a Jorgalli fleet to stop it from reaching an Imperium planet.

Isstvan III is eradicated, the Warmaster sends in a second wave to kill any remaining loyalist Astartes.

Lucious has betrayed the survivors and doomed them to death.
Tarvitz learns of this and whips his ass. Unfortunately he escapes before getting what he deserves.

The Warmaster attempts to kill all those who oppose him by sending them to Isstvan III. Billions die in the bombardment. No sign of Loken yet but Qruze and Angron have abandoned Horus.

Tthat was what the imperial truth meant, he realized at last. It meant hope: hope for the galaxy; hope for humanity.”

Loken/Torgaddon join the spear tip, leaving the 10th & 2nd legion behind.

Tarvitz, sensing something is off, asks to be reassigned and remains on The Vengeful Spirit.

Sindermann didn’t do fucking shit!

“He missed the times he had stood in the presence of his fellow warriors when the talk had been of campaigns passed, and yet to come. The shared camaraderie of brotherhood was a comfort that was only realized once it was stripped away.”

Four legions gather at Isstvan III: The Sons of Horus, The Emperor’s Children, The World Eaters and The Death Guard.

Sindermann sneaks out of confinement to visit the Saint.

Tarvitz & Lucious are at odds.

“ The angel of death comes to us and says, ‘you see everything that exists here is mine; it is not yours. Your house, your spouse, your children, your car, your career, your money - Everything is mine and I can take it away when I want to, but for now you can use it.’”

“Do not be concerned about the future; keep your attention on today, and stay in the present moment. Just live one day at a time.”

“The first few times Loken had fought the brotherhood. He felt a treacherous hesitation, seize his limbs, but nine months of grueling campaigning had pretty much cured him of that.”

“Those with courage and character to speak the truth, always seem sinister to the ignorant.”

“All right, genius brain; come up with something!
… I’m hungry.
You have failed me, brain.”

“If someone is not treating you with love and respect, it is a gift if they walk away from you. If that person doesn’t walk away, you will surely endure many years of suffering with him or her. Walking away may hurt for a while, but your heart will eventually heal. Then you can choose what you really want.”

“Horus dropped to his knees in rapture at the site. Who would not strive to worship so perfect of being? Power and certainty flowed from the figure, the secret mystery of creation at his fingertips, the answers to any question that could be asked. There for the knowing and the wisdom to know how to use them.”

“And at what price will we buy his life? By bringing him to a house of false Gods? The Emperor tells us the civilization will only achieve perfection when the last stone of the last church falls upon the last priest. This goes against everything we have fought for these last two centuries, don’t you see that?”

“When you have come to the edge of all that you know, and are about to drop off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things will happen. That there will be something solid to stand on or you’ll be taught to fly.”
