I ordered this book from the library because of a mistake. I'm trying to read the books I own, and one of them is The Fated Sky. I looked that up here on Goodreads and saw that it's the sequel to this book, so by reading this I would be working on my goal. Only it turns out that The Fated Sky I have is another one by a different author but with a superficially similar cover. But I love it, so it's OK.

My feelings about this book are changing, perhaps because I'm thinking about what would happen if a member of the target age group - a teenager - were to read it. I wouldn't really want a kid to get the impression that it's a good idea for teens to make out, or that mysticism works and is better than any organized religion. There is some value to the story, though, and I plan to finish. But then I'll get rid of it.

I really like this Penguin edition. The editor, Roger Pooley, is a theologian and scholar of Bunyan and has good notes. I'm enjoying the apparently brand new copy. And it has Part II - the sequel about Christian's family! I wasn't sure I would ever find that. It's from the public library.

I had not realized that the marginal notes, including scripture references, were added by Bunyan himself in later editions.

I read this years ago and remembered that I liked it, the "Magic 8 Ball" substitute toy, and that the girl loved hard crosswords and had been taught how to do them by an older female relative. But I forgot most of it, including her friends, the boy she likes, etc. I just realized the Museum of Art she visits is the Philadelphia one, from the Rubens Prometheus painting, which I have seen many times and like.
