Loving the connections between the Old and new testaments and the breakdown of God bringing chaos into order

Currently halting on this because its making me sad but ill try to push through next week when the sun comes out again

Elizabeth is a funny little writer and I’m enjoying Italy immensely. SO to Maura who inspired me to buy this book years ago but who never actually read it herself

Each chapter is a scene and sometimes they’re way too long and lose me a bit. Holda has the most interesting voice so I tend to want more of her

Slow start with too many pov shifts, but I’m starting to follow the plot better and pick it up more often

This is such a different voice from americanah, which I didn’t expect at all, but I like the storytelling so far

The book is taking itself too seriously. It’s about a disappointing man but written in a dark tone as if it’s about domestic abuse or war. I’m having a hard time choosing to pick it up again

I don’t always love plot driven narratives but this has been really entertaining

I’m experiencing a lot of dread because I don’t want to know how much the characters are harmed. The story is told so well and I’m glad Bear’s timeline isn’t perfect, but I’m sad.

These characters aren’t likable but I love them. How does she do this
