I also managed to almost make my beta readers mad at me by dropping the biggest plot twist of the book into their doc before writing the last two chapters for them. XD

SO close to the end of the first draft!

I could still walk these halls blindfolded, still knew every nook and cranny…yet I didn’t. I didn’t recognize the hall I was walking through—the dark tapestries—the worn, scared look on the single servant I had seen hurrying by.

Cassian snorted, his eyes lighting up and losing their pained, lost look for a split second.

I had to convince the Council of the Mouse King’s treachery. Somehow—I had to.

Doom dripped from the trees, seeping into the snow, its heavy taint sucking away my breath as the branches rustled to each other in glee.

I took a dainty sip, closing my eyes as the warm steam filled my senses. Tart apples and the nutty taste of Ninari’s prize crops melded with unfamiliar spices, soothing my tastebuds with tingling bursts of flavor.

“Oh?” A look of mischief sparked across Cassian’s face as he scanned the trees crowding in around our narrow path.
Then abruptly slid out of his saddle, plunging into a drift of snow beside the path.
“What—” I squeaked, unintentionally jerking Esme to a halt. “Cassian!”

Shooting another glare at my brother, Cassian turned back to me. “I might accidentally break his now. Oops.”

We’re going to get caught.
Warning bells rang through my mind in time to the simple melody Marie was humming, nearly sending me scrambling back into the center of the festival.
Even the large crowds sounded better than this.
