Blaming the illegal hunting on not being able to say no to his neighbor. How he treated the cat. Now I'm reading about how he wants a wife. Nothing about wanting companionship, just what work she could do and not wanting her stollen by some other bachelor homesteader.

Not like most homesteader in Alaska books. More humorous and more about the people that he meets rather than how to survive. I enjoy the humor, although I'm not sure I like the man.

Okay, I've just started this book, and I must say, I'm already hooked. It's funny, has an original premise, and it's not a romance pretending to be a mystery. Can't call it a cozy mystery because what's cozy about a lady who makes her living dying in the place of others?

Took me a bit to get into this. I think partially due to needing new reading glasses. lol All those italics were really hard for me to read. Got the new glasses and I'm really enjoying it now. I wasn't sure what to expect from this play script book, but it's got some interesting twists.

Someone needs to tell the author that landlines aren't like cells. Connecting the red phone to a jack in a new house isn't going to make it work. Have to transfer the number to the new address....if it can be.

I'd really like to know how she figured out that the medallions went with the victims jobs, what jobs had already been done and which three were left. Just because they were listed in a certain order doesn't mean that's the order he's killing in.

At the beginning of the book, they mention how the house has secret passages and rooms from the Underground Railroad days, and they've been in one before, but they haven't checked it out with someone trying to poison them and a ghost that keeps hiding. Not too bright, these girls. Other than that, really enjoying the book! ;)

I've already figured out what's in the basement. I do enjoy the books, but really, the "mysteries" are extremely simplistic.

Another annoying thing is how many times she says she's a Gumm. Okay. I get it. She's a poor working class girl. I can infer that her line of thought comes from this without all the, " I'm a Gumm."

Up to chapter 11. While I am enjoying the story, and the historical facts are interesting for the most part, I do wish that some of the facts had been left out. Goes too far away from the story and gets me out of the mood of the moment. I really didn't need all of Daisy's thoughts on various dog breeds when dogs aren't a part of the story.

The movie seems to be a good adaptation of the book. Somethings are left out, but that's expected given the time constraints. Yes, it does have a lot of gallows humor, but I like that. Lots of science, but I don't mind that either. I have severe COPD and retain CO2, so breathing, oxygen and CO2 levels are something I think about on a constant basis anyway. Lol Probably part of my enjoyment of gallows humor too!

Halfway through and I don't like Frankie or Nate. Frankie is obviously a user, and Nate is a stupid pushover. I'm sorry, but not being into sports, taking baths, and reading chick lit doesn't make a guy less masculine. Okay, maybe the chick lit, but my husband watches Hallmark Christmas movies, takes baths and doesn't watch football...and is also a 20 year Army vet that no one would accuse of being feminine.

Bought this because I normally love Heather Graham books. So far, I'm sad to say, it's just not holding up to her other works. Way too much "I'm so hot for his body." And very little plot.

Still have about 50 pages to read. This one, while entertaining, isn't nearly as good as the first book in the series. Frankly, the upcoming "plot twist" should have a red neon sign with a flashing arrow. Too obvious.

Just started reading last night. So far, a nice light read and I think I'm going to enjoy it. I must say though, for someone who hates her mother-in-law, they seem to be talking and getting along quite well.

I feel that the book is trying too hard to be like Briget Jones' Diary. Take Briget, make her middle aged, and there you go! It's readable, but not fresh. The character gets into new ridiculous situations at least once a day, complains about her weight, and is afraid of being alone.

Frankly, not sure if. Want to read any more of this book. I don't like the heroine. She's immature and self centered. I don't find her comments about the "Botox Bitches" funny....just bitchy. I'm tired and want to sleep.....hopefully being uninterested in the story line will allow my brain to shut down so I can sleep.

Figured out within a few pages that the author is a military wife....and it reads like it. Not a lot of skill and so sick of reading about how he was in the SEALS. And if I sound like the wife of someone who did 20 years and is sick of whining wives and wives who think their husbands give them rank.... I am. But I already determined that this book wasn't written well before I looked up if she's a military wife.

Having read Under the Banner of Heaven years ago, I wanted to read it again and was going to buy that when I saw this one listed with great reader reviews. I find the story of the FDLS mesmerizing and horrifying...things done in the name religion. Personally....any religion that is considered fundamentalist...RUN!!!

Reading this book under the recommendation of my mom, but not sure I like it. A lot of crudity thrown around for no apparent reason....or maybe it's just me. Does anybody really think, "I wanted to punch her in her stupid spotless vagina." Even if I'm mad at a fictional character, I might go as far as wanting to bitch slap. Still, going to give it at least 100 pages to grab me.

Amazing how much the American govt didn't want to insult the German govt by speaking ill off Hitler's actions. People being murdered and we are telling the Ambassador to talk to Hitler about debt payment. Wow.

Nearly to the end (most of what's left is references and crap) so I'll give my general impression of the book now. Not as good as I was expecting. The middle was dang boring. I wanted to find out what they saw in Germany and got really bored of all the time spent on how Dodd wasn't part of the old boys club and wasn't liked by them. Way too much time spent on that. Hinted at Martha spying for Russia, then nothing.
