This MC is so overdramatic about things, and never uses her head. "OMG my boyfriend didn't immediately tell this super dangerous, super powerful vampire that we were dating!!!! HE MUST NOT CARE ABOUT ME!!" like... or... there are good reasons not to reveal your weakness to the enemy....;;

I don't really like this. It needs more description to have the atmosphere the cover promises. Too much of it is dialog of petty "humorous" bickering between the characters that falls entirely flat.

I'm not entirely sure what time period this is supposed to be. There's no dates and the book description doesn't say. It feels like Regency but the character's language - "Mayhaps, Nay, Aye" - is all wrong. And Charlie swears way too much for a noblewoman. It feels kinda like Regency fanfiction lol.

We're 1/3 of the way through and there's not many solid clues. I'm not super invested in any of the characters. And there's no romance. I'm kinda bored. u_u

Honestly, I might stop reading this series because the mother in it strikes a nerve in me that makes me incredibly angry when I try to read it lol. It's very well-written and a good book but OMG I cannot stand this character.

This is a great book but every chapter makes me cry lol

I'm on chapter 5 and nobody's been murdered yet lol. This book has SO many characters introduced at such a rapid pace, I can't keep them all straight.

I love this series. I hope it never ends.

You know it's good writing when you want to reach into the pages and slap a character because they're so annoying

Magic in this book works the way it would in a Disney channel show. It's less witchy and more "omg I pointed my finger and poof!"

Are all of Ray Bradbury's books like this?? I rented this becuase I thumbed through it at the library and was so entranced by the writing after just a couple pages I couldn't imagine leaving it behind. I keep reading just a few pages at a time and it's just... beyond masterful. I could never write like this, holy shit. It's so evocative and every sentence evokes imagery like crazy.

This has been on my to-read list for so long... I didn't realize it was published over 20 years ago (wow i'm old). Queer ideas have evolved so much in the past 20 years.

This is the first in a series but it reads like the 2nd... it keeps giving me random background info for characters and things that make me feel like I missed something. :/

I think the author tries a little too hard with some of these descriptions, trying to give them like a... "woke" moral? if that makes any sense. I get that the whole premise of the book is that these folklore characters are rebelling against the status quo, but idk.

The quirky and extremely biased narrator of this book is very fun to read. If I met him in person, he'd be so obnoxious I'd want to avoid him, but reading through his eyes is delightful lol.

I also found out that this author lives in my city!!

I was really surprised to discover the kitchen witch in this book is male

At one point during this, she gasps in horror "It's not like it's SEX WORK!!" like... ugh. I don't like this protagonist LOL. I want her to grow up and get a grip. She's acting like a middle schooler.

Okay so far honestly the weirdest thing about this book is how squeamish and dramatic the MC is being about the whole thing. I've never read an erotic book that had such a... sex-negative MC lol.

She works in a super clinical setting that is very professional and yet the whole time she's like scandalized that dicks are involved. Bruh.

Idk how to describe the writing in this book other than "thick." it's very emotional and graphic in a good way? But it's also A Lot and I find myself just wanting a break from the intensity of it all

the descriptions in this book are lovely. it's set near halloween and just reading about it is making me feel cold :P

I don't.... *get* their relationship. Weirdly the strange worldbuilding and irreverent universe she's created don't phase me at all. I can accept this premise and am interested in learning more. But the bizarre instalove "He was hot and I held his hand and didn't even ask if he's gay but he is magically just as into me as I am into him even though we met 24 hrs ago" is....... just odd. I can't get behind it??

trying to come out of a depression fog I've been in for like two years. there's already been a lot in this book that's resonated with me. it gives really concrete solutions that are small an easy to do... instead of like "go reinvent the entire way you think" or something lol
