Reading this book with my men’s Bible study has been surprisingly good. Ortland points us to a gentle, close, and approving God, and that feels so fresh. I’ve been teaching, preaching, and shepherding for 10 years, and it’s convicting how much I fall back into false conceptions of God as wrathful, disapproving, and distant—maybe not in how I present God to others, but how I present God to myself.

I’m about half way through this and Wilkerson has convinced me that caste is a useful paradigm for understanding “race” in the U.S.
