I honestly don’t know if I’ll get to finishing this book, it’s been good here and there, I even enjoyed reading some parts and making my own conjectures, but I’m at a point where it doesn’t feel interesting or the direction of his arguments are a little out there. I’m not doubting his prowess or hating on him, but it’s one of those books I’ll pick up where I left off in due time, but who knows?

The book thus far has proven itself to be quite an interesting read, however I am always skeptical of the validity of its claims (particularly in Chapter 1 regarding “The Russian Soldier.”) Although it is written from the experiences of 4 German commanders who have fought on the Eastern Front, I still can’t help but wonder if their perspectives are produced from both reality and their own lenses / bias of them.

Started a couple days ago, I’m enjoying the book so far! Quite informative of Rommel’s character and his life, bringing up briefly his service in the First World War, his relationship with his wife Lucie, examples of how his personality sculpted the person he was.

It’s been some time since I last read this book, so getting back to it I found myself really enjoying what I previously thought was too monotonous in the sense that it talks primarily about units being moved and other strategic decisions. Hope to finish this book soon before I lose my spark!
