The fact that the Spanish handed a document to an island population who didn’t even know their language or alphabet, declaring that they had annexed the island, was one of the most absurd and striking examples of Westerncentric thinking I’ve ever encountered.

I’ve been bewitched by his narrative -body, and soul-.

“How dreadful is this place! This is none of other but the HOUSE of God, and this gate of heaven.” (Genesis 28:17)

“14 inches across and sponsored by brand names which still sound like poetry to me. I loved it all.”

“All things were made through the word and without the word nothing was made.”

Although the title carries a poetic and almost romantic timbre, the book itself is rather rough to read because of its realistic narrative.

“When you see your likeness (in a mirror) you are pleased; but when you see your images, which have come into being before you, how much will you have to bear!”
