How in God’s name is this book so funny

Unbelievable

Embarking on my second full-length Dostoyevsky novel, having read the Brothers Karamazov last year. There is a wonderful feeling of comfort, being in the hands of a master. But so far that’s where the comfort ends, because, wow, this is bleak. Already hooked.

Kashiwagi getting rejected and then scheming frantically to steal his love’s cat only to grow to truly love the cat, gaze in its eyes, and recite poetry was an unexpected delight. I have been happily cackling in my room.

And so the epic journey begins. Took me two and a half hours to read the 30 pages introduction since I’m a somewhat slow reader and the pages are MASSIVE and the print is kinda small. Also there are like 1100 pages or something like that. I have not been so excited about a book since maybe ever. I can’t wait to live in the twilight glow of this world.

damn the section on the trojan war was amazing, this book has made me YEARN for a single narrative and that’s the closest i’ve gotten in a while, immense satisfaction
