I had listened to this book several times before I happened to come across the hardback version in a charity shop. It is engrossingly written and beautifully illustrated. Life on Earth does charming justice to life on Earth.

I have yet to encounter two consecutive comprehensible sentences in this book. The essays are mostly translated from French; whether or not that accounts for their labyrinthine obscurity, I can't say. I've started though, so I'll battle on.

I'm not very far through, and I'm exerting all my powers of concentration, but so far I don't think I've come across two consecutive comprehensible sentences.

I'm listening to this book on Audible; it's taken a long time to get this far, and it'll be another long time before I get to the end. So far, I like it a lot. It is a captivating listen, with so much detail about how the planet has shaped human history and vice versa.
