His descriptions of Oxford and use of language don't always ring true. I certainly don't recall ever being waited on in the Eagle & Child or hearing of people being chucked out for drinking ginger ale. I also feel very confused about the quad (usually the name for an open courtyard surrounded by buildings) apparently located at the top of a residential staircase. But I certainly recognize the mix of characters.
