Good slow burn though not any clues so far but nice human aspect

Great descriptions showing bleakness, beautiful dynamic of having an adults mind analysing the evidence from being a child, great description of how the adults don’t care about their lawns deep down and there act collapses trying to convice their kids of a better world!

Interesting to see how the father is almost maintaining the sons innocence after killing the man, making sure he doesn’t see that they boiled and ate the man and the true horror, almost because he knows that his son is what’s keeping him going and to have his son see would break him and then there would be nothing to live for.

The man struck by lighting was cool affff deepens the dynamic of the father and son

Love the dynamic that the boy is the only thing keeping the dad going, from saying it out right saying he’s been told he’s a corpse who is only alive because of his son but I believe the toy penguin is a reflection of the dad endlessly going still walking on when he has nothing to keep him going but his son, but further more his som let’s him see the world in a new light, like enjoying the waterfall and mushroo

So far hit chapter 22 which is one of Steinbeck’s narrations on the current over all atmosphere. I can’t help but notice the same patterns happening the greed in peoples eyes, the men at the top manipulating everything. But I feel this is the way of life now, all of us are under the pressure of want and need. Only issue I have with the book is at certain points it is poorly paced but every moment has its purpose.
