I am properly enthralled in this story. It’d one of those novels that you get so invested in each character and their story. I see a lot of myself in Laurie, which makes me even more committed to the resolution, yet I don’t want it to end. “… and the day of separation coming nearer and nearer, till it would be now”. The chariot is being jolted about right now!

That first chapter was quite possibly one of the best opening chapters I have ever read. If not the best. Wow. Knowing the book involves dunkirk and war, I was not expecting a start so early in Laurie’s life. Renault really took the time to develop this character. It was hard to tell that first chapter was written in 1953.

Quite liking the storyline. What a comedic situation with poor Ms. Munt. Eager to see how the story develops; however, it’s tricky to read through Forster’s prose as I found with Maurice. Overall I have good faith with how it will turn out
