Disappointingly, I feel this book is too ambitious in tone, scope, and lens. But mostly tone. John Elledge is deeply influenced by his own frame of reference and it produces quite a few oversteps and disjointed chapters. Sometimes feels like a ghostwriter wrote half of the chapters because the voice differs so much. A different editor would have served this book well. :/
