"Whatever past training he had received was apparently so ingrained, that he noticed all the details without any conscious effort."
This feels like lazy writing to me. Please don't tell me this; go ahead and describe all the things he notices, or have him mention something in a tense conversation later, but don't just tell me this is what happened. I want to experience the reading of the book as if I'm in it.

I just keeping shaking my head as I read. I already knew white people are cruel, but this book is opening my eyes even more. White people, in general, are jerks. And then we blame the people we're oppressing for what we ourselves are doing! Rape, laziness, dishonesty, you name it, white people have done it and then tried to lay blame on others. It's deplorable. I'm ashamed of the color of my skin.

Wishing I had the ebook version of this very heavy tome, but the story is worth the weight.

awesome page turner. had to put it down around midnight to get some sleep, which was hard because each successive chapter was an even greater cliffhanger than the one before it.

I almost put this down when the protagonist's age was mentioned as 12, since I thought the writing would be for a younger audience than I wanted to read. However, I read just a bit further and got sucked into a story about teens; more my style.

wow. novel that could be a biography but never boring. the writing makes me want to save the little girl growing up so fast.

at first I wasn't into this book. Then, plenty of bizzare and terrifying things happended to hook me. I keep telling myself "this is not a horror; it is a psych thriller."

This is my kind of suspense! I'm on edge reading, don't want to put the book down.

This is a powerful book! Layers of suffering are being peeled away just from reading this and thinking a bit about my own experiences. Of course, that includes discomfort, anger, sadness, but these are healing feelings.

ugh. slogging through waaay too clearly stereotypical teen drama: cafeteria scene, adorably friendly new roommate, jealous queen bee. Can we get back to the meat of the story--crazed cannibals?

tent makout scene: cheesy. i'm making faces while i read. faces that say, this is really cliche.

as of 10%, I was not feeling this book. It wasn't ringing true to me. Now, the action is getting started and I like it!
