Rare for me to update but this first section is really good despite disagreeing with some final points. But I am seeing the hype around the book. It speaks directly to the audience with a certain causality while being well researched and academic in its remarks! And this section about women in music is REALLY interesting.

Introduction so good it makes me excited to pick it up tomorrow and finish it. Thanks Barbs for making sure I got the book ❤️‍🩹

...give or take I last ~300 more pages of this unless I really want to torture myself to criticize itself, but unironically the sentence of "It insists on itself" fits this book so well.

It worries me that this book may not be good and suffers from a case of "Tumbleritis", but I shall give it a chance. Note, I have never seen the movie or read in depth reviews, just heard some positive and negative things without specifics. Let's see how it goes.
