I think people who wrote books in the past were not very interested in building things up, they just went straight into the action, and let you start to catch up on your own. Mario Puzo just brings you into it without introduction. You’re not there to be a judge or imagine yourself as one of the characters, you’re a somewhat creepy spectator. It’s sadly very enthralling.
