I saw reviews of this book saying that there is a Sherlock-type of main character here, and they were right. The resemblance cannot be mistaken. Though, the world building is significantly entertaining that the novelty of the story is there in spite of the Sherlock character. Besides, I love Sherlock! The murder mystery is a bit of a slow burn, but the main character duo is loveable enough to see it through

“All of it had brought them closer to who they were, who they’d always been. Mother and daughter. Their essential, immutable bond—fragile enough to snap at a harsh word a long time ago, durable enough to survive death itself” IYAK

Truly loving your child means doing the right thing even if it means letting go of your abusive spouse :~ I can’t with this toxic couple, but also this is Battered Woman Syndrome at play… poor Leni

It’s terrible to see how battered woman syndrome can drown away all sense of one’s self and of one’s role as a mother. Idk how Leni and Mama can manage not to say a word to crazy Ernt. If I were in their shoes, I wouldn’t be able to keep my mouth shut and the story would end right around the first beating 🥊 like please take him to prison already, Large Marge!

I love the scenery and vibe this book gives. Great for slow calm nights where I’m not in the mood for anything intense. Some parts family drama and some parts coming of age

I find the witchcraft references very interesting. The peek into how spells and curses work is very fun. Love the pregnancy angle too since it’s very relateable. Loooove the scene where Mrs Parcae tries to enter the Home! And the birthing scene was very interesting to read from a 3rd person POV after having gone through the experience myself
