OJ had miscalculated, made a terrible mistake. It was one thing to beat Nicole behind closed doors and have people suspect it. It was quite another to commit himself in writing, for everyone to see, a ruthless threat to report the mother of his children to the IRS.

Despite everything he’d done to her - the beatings, the humiliation, the other women, the ruthless manipulation of her friends and family in order to isolate her - Nick had absorbed it like a thoroughbred. But now, OJ had attacked the most precious core of her being: the children she adored... Now OJ was fucking with a tigress, and she’d rip his heart out if he came one step closer to her cubs.

What the hell was it with OJ? Silly question. He wanted to control the guys so they would control their women and isolate Nicole so she’d be more dependent on him.

OJ on reporting Nicole to the IRS for tax fraud: “It’s because she doesn’t want to be with me anymore. I want her to be in as much pain as possible. Without me, she’s nothing. Let her live in reality for a while so she’ll appreciate how good she had it with me.”

We don’t need a masterclass in abuse to understand what’s going on.

“Not all men are as possessive as OJ, but most are judgmental. If they have an affair or even a casual encounter, they’re just being men. But if a woman does exactly the same thing, she’s - you name it - a whore, a slut, basically a bad human being... But I do believe that as women evolve and learn to be their own personal and control their own destinies, they will no longer buy into this philosophy.”

“I’m aware there are women who don’t enjoy sex, but I’m not among them. And neither was Nicole. In my case, it’s fortunate, because my childhood was practically one long lecture on the evils of drink, drugs, and most of all - sex. I sometimes wonder how many women’s marriages were ruined by parents who brainwashed them to believe that sex is dirty and evil.”

Faye to OJ: All I’m hearing is you, you, you. Can I just remind you of something? You’ve told me I’d kill Nicole. I can’t believe any man could say that about the mother of his children, about the woman he supposedly loves. Did you really mean it when you said you’d kill her?
OJ: You heard me. If she’s with another man, I’ll kill her. You tell her she’s better play her role and look like my wife..

Nicole: OJ never talked to the shrink about abuse at all. But I’m not surprised...It would make him look bad - and God forbid OJ should ever look bad to strangers. That’s when I decided the whole thing is hopeless. OJ is never going to change... If I’m with him, and I complain about his women, he’s going to beat me. And maybe someday he’ll beat me to death.”

After a man beats you, in many cases, what he does next is to “mind-fuck” you into believing that this was a “one-time only loss of control” and that “it will never happen again”. In some cases, like mine, it was true. But in Nicole’s case, as with most women, it was sadly not true.

“It was an inside joke that OJ would never lose Nicole because she would never find another man who could give her the quantity and quality she was used to.” “AC was always saying that OJ had molded me sexually so that nobody else could take his place.”

That’s called grooming

Faye’s recollection of Nicole’s thoughts on Marcus Allen: “I’ve been over this a million times in my head. I mean, why can’t I see who I want to see? I’m not married to OJ, dammit. Marcus is not only a good friend, he makes me feel good...unless I have something to tell (OJ) about the kids, he doesn’t even take my calls... So I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong.”

Marcus and AC were OJ’s only close black friends. If you looked at most of OJ’s pals, they were older, affluent, white Jewish men. These were OJ’s golfing buddies, his country club pals. But when OJ hit the town and wanted to howl, when he was looking for women, Marcus was his running mate.

To understand why OJ was so compulsively attracted to Nicole, you’d have to understand his mindset. OJ seemed to hate being black and, although he tried to conceal it, avoided any real connection with the black community... while he was content to be a role model for young black athletes, he never went out of his way to help them...Nicole was not the first whites woman in OJ’s life, nor was she the last.

“It bothered OJ that Nicole had seen other men during the separation and divorce. He’d say, ‘things are going to be different Nicole... I don’t want you going out dancing anymore without me, and I don’t want all these guys hanging out at the house. And I don’t want you spending so much time with your girlfriends. You’ve got to start thinking of me; I am the man in your life”

“ when we love someone we want to believe them. When we are having trouble, we want to believe that things can be different and things can change.”

“I told him she was a beautiful woman with a kind spirit and that what she said about O.J. molding her was absolutely correct. She had informed her own personality and didn’t know where she stood in life. What’s more, she had just too much pain she was suppressing to let anybody know her.”

Yeah. This is absolutely all on OJ. He cheated on his wife with a high school girl. That, alone, is disgusting

Grant was fascinated when he learned that Nicole has been with O.J. ever since she’d come out of high school. O.J. was the person who had “molded” her, made her into the woman he saw. Grant’s response to this was, “ nobody can mold you.” Nicole knew better. She told Grant, “I am a product of OJ, plain and simple.”

Abuse 101

Donald Trump was there, doing his “look-at-me, I’m-bigger-than-life” thing. We were all laughing because he dragged along this incredibly big-busted bimbo who apparently thought runway modeling was akin to bumping and grinding in a strip show. Her antics were hysterical, but Donald was salivating.”

I see that not much has changed.

“So much for keeping things from children. If you shield them from reality, the danger is that they’ll construct a scenario that ends up harming them more deeply than the most painful truth.”

“O.J. had been charged with battering Nicole after police found her cowering outside her house in 1989, badly beaten and dressed in only a bra and sweatpants.”
It’s crazy to me how a man with a police history of violence & abuse still got people to question whether he actually hurt his ex. Crazy.

Why were people more outraged over Resnick detailing Nicole’s sexuality when O.J. Simpson admitted in a 911 tape that he stalked his ex wife. Heck, Resnick casually just mentioned O.J. hid in the bushes to spy on his ex wife’s sexual encounters! Major red flag!! Why was this so normalized among Nicole’s friends? Why didn’t the media focus on O.J. the creepy, dangerous stalker?

Now, more than ever, I am aware that in criminal cases involving a woman, there’s always the tendency to hint that she’s probably guilty of sluttish behavior - even when she’s the person wronged. On O.J. “He couldn’t understand that when a woman has children, you can just separate her from them. You’ve got to maintain a home and a schedule for kids.”

I’m crying. I just found out this is the last one for the PJO-HOO-TOA universe and I’m not sure if I can handle the separation anxiety. I started reading the series when I was 18 & it’s still among my favorites even 10 years later! I’m for sure going to be reading these to my child, but it’s sad that I won’t be having new books from this series to look forward to. Thank you, Rick, for this amazing series

I decided that I needed to take a new direction in my life, because any change was better than staying in the pit of depression. I actually visualized it as a pit.

It always disappoints me when mortals put themselves first and failed to see the big picture - the importance of putting me first - but I had to remind myself that this young man had helped me out on many previous occasions.
