Oh no. 1/5 the way through, and I already know who did it and mostly why. I even twigged to the side mystery. *sigh* I'm going to keep going for now, but I wish the mystery was a little bit more subtle.

Beginning of chapter 18----did the author just paraphrase "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel?!

At 4% I'm switching from audio to print. The narrator is sucking all the zest from the characters.

Pausing at 25% of the audiobook because I ran out of time and all my new releases that I had holds on just came out 🙃

Since this is the first in an interwoven trilogy, I think I might wait and binge all three. So far I'm liking it, although I don't remember his descriptions being so convoluted in his previous books. Plot, yes, and that's par for course. So we'll see!

So far, I'm not enjoying this once as much as the first book. It's less "What if Welcome to Nightvale were charming and cozy?" and more "Did you really like the parts of Harry Potter with Dolores Umbridge?" Once election week 2024 hit, I lost motivation on this one. I intend to come back, though!

Hitting pause at 7% of the audiobook because I'm a VERY not feeling this narrator. Sorry, dude. I'll pick back up with a print copy.

The audiobook editing is sloppy. Often the reader sounds like she's in a closet. Early in the book, they left in the reader's alternative pronunciation ("Alt: xxxx")

Started this as an audiobook and switching to print: the narrator, Xe Sands, has a lovely voice but is a serious stylistic mismatch
