She’s so good

“Silence was a good way to get information, to make the other persons commit to the transaction first”… please don’t be this on the nose when you have a solid anti-pharma/capitalist premise :’( crying and begging for the characters to stop “one-lining” and staring into the invisible camera.

Very cool opening chapter.. so why the perspective shift ;(((

Impactful in memoir informative as journalism, teaching me the inability/detrimental nature of separating the two forms

I’m Highly recommending that all put this on their (long wait) library holds list. 2 women, both journalists, interwoven testimonials of modern Iran. .. best written non-fiction for me in a long time in terms of format/delivery. (They don’t use redundancy to be impactful, they just are that good at reporting/ presenting their knowledge and experience.)

I’m annoyed that there’s a marriage prospect, like he’s annoying and diluting her character for me.

Very much something I would have read in high school, so that’s fun!

I am loving this “lets start a band and change the world”-energy from 2 teenagers using stolen comparative lit.. there’s obviously a lot more historical underpinnings in this story but it’s powerful how much they love this craft.

Advice to readers: Just get through the first chapter on running as fast as you can. This book thrives in her memories and subtle messaging not straight up- “self help” podcast soliloquies.

“Old money and lies” never interested me that much because I get far too annoyed by the auxiliary characters (in this case three aunts) who are meant to heighten the reactions of their patriarchs and their daughters.

I also don’t like not telling someone about a medic crime that happened to them?! This genre might not be 4 me.

It’s cute, I would like if this book remained whimsical

I need to lock in more plot-wise when I read magical realism
