Anyway very much enjoying this when I get time to read it in between my uni readings

This is getting better and better. As the story is further established it becomes more connected. In terms of a commentary in human nature, it is quite a depressing and pessimistic one. I also feel like it is very black and white: good and bad natures.

Still feels a bit simply written but I’m enjoying the plot.

I’m not sure if it’s because it’s translated or maybe just the author’s style, but why is everything laid out so explicitly? I feel like I’m reading a series of events rather than a connected story. Early days still however, so hopefully it gets better.

I think I am about 1% through this book. Seems fun tho. I like a good revenge story

Ok, so I’m not very far through this book yet, but god can I just feel it’s going to be gorgeous. The writing is spectacularly evocative, and I feel captures childhood perfectly. Not in that shrouded, nostalgic, cloudy eyed way that many choose to look back on childhood as, but in a way that truly reminds me of my own childhood (social cliques, school, family, neighbourhood). YAY A GOOD BOOK!

Jane Austen has the most singular talent of creating a character that is both infuriating and entirely loveable. Emma is the perfect mix of a condescending, self absorbed, unaware, yet deeply intelligent and understanding character. I love you Jane Austen you are so cool you would’ve loved the office

Why the hell is cellular respiration so complicated I don’t want to know about the 10 steps of glycolysis can’t scientists ever learn to be concise???!??!?

God I hate chemistry

For a book about life, I’ve never read something that provokes a state of dullness quite so fully as this textbook does. Not only this, but it also seems to be the author’s intention accompany this dullness with a thorough sense of confusion to all that is written.

The best that can be said for this textbook is the insurmountable joy I find upon closing it.

Mr Hannay is so cool I want to be him he’s like James Bond but cooler

The men in this book are so annoying. Gives me the impression that Charlotte Brontë did not have very good experiences with men in her lifetime. It seems that Jane’s ideal husband is controlling and overbearing.

So many plot twists I’m starting to lose count. However on this latest plot twist, my interest has once again been piqued. I’m sure I’ll lose interest again soon, but things are starting to get interesting 🤨🤔🧐

Jane removing herself from society and bringing herself to the point of starvation (and death) in anger at Mr Rochester is so valid. Ultimate guilt trip move

I just can’t really understand how someone constructed to be so socially aware as Jane Eyre could think it a surprise that Mr Rochester likes her. Whilst also described to be modest, I feel this is a little inconsistent with her characterisation?

Jane Eyre is reserved and overly confirmative but acts like she isn’t, Mr Rochester is whining, petulant and dramatic, and both are completely devoid of common sense.

Biggest plot twist of my life pity I don’t really care

This is getting kind of scary

I hate Mr Rochester and I hate Jane étête they’re both silly sausages. I dunno maybe it gets better but the last 30 or so chapters have been getting gradually worse and worse. Behind the shield of Emily(?) brontes eloquent and complicated language, I feel that her characterisation and use of foreshadowing are far too overt and clunky to aid the book and characters to an intricate and refined level.

Jane Austen extracts relatable, common quirks in people and turns them into whole characters, creating a community of oddities whom readers can invariably profess to be, or to know. It’s lovely. I’ve never found a better character constructer than Jane Austen. Every line is intertwined with some sort of hidden humour. Her novels have the rare quality of improving with each read.

Reading this back knowing the end is so funny. Frank Churchill is the most devious, arrogant man - I feel sorry for Jane Fairfax.
