So far, crazy readable, don’t know if I fully understand or agree with all the phenomenologists cited (I’m fairly sure Heidegger would disagree that we can ever be lastingly cognizant of the structure of our world) but I really like the reading of Julian.. I really hope I finish this book someday

It’s so good but so long and sometimes I just say “oh my god” because it’s so true but other times I say “oh my god” because he’s missing (u guessed it) the ineffable (like they always do)

so eyewateringly boring that it makes me want to give up this is legitimately the most useless book... author will go on 4 page tangent about some random niche of papyrus information (a palimpsest? who cares???) then says "this tangent is all to prove"... his contemporaries wrong. this is just a long argument with other 1990s archaeologists

so lit and awesome and valuable and perfect and it makes me wanna put the book on a table and stick wires into it and then stick the other end of the wires into my brain and just directly absorb all the scrumptious information

“Cammed each night out of that safe furrow the bulk of the city’s waking each sunrise again set virtuously to plowing, what rich soils had he turned, what concentric planets uncovered?”
