I just realized this is going to be a series, so I am assuming Melanie survives, but I have no idea what is going to happen.

I have had this book for months and finally made it a priority to start reading. Once I got started I have not been able to stop. That said, I have very few hours in a day, or every few days to read, but this is the ONLY book I am currently reading. The language is beautiful, haunting, poetic, and the people, places, and life stories are so real that I am transported and feel a catch in my throat as I read.

I had forgotten how much I love drawing and how I used to spend hours reading watercolor books. I opened this book this weekend sitting outside in the sun listening and watching to all the different birds doing their spring thing. I was absorbed for hours and wishing I had drawing paper and tools with me, though it's been so long since I've drawn I'm afraid of failing - and Clare addresses this in the book.

I read Pete's book Indian Creek Chronicles a winter alone in the wilderness, and am thoroughly enjoying this book written many decades later

I read this book when I was in high school and it stuck with me as a good read. I am rereading it now to see what I think decades on. I am struck, now, by how science was able to be envisioned in a future fashion but not women's roles and power structures and religion. Perhaps that's why we needed an Anne McCaffrey to enter the SciFi genre and give women a badly needed update.
