been reading this all day instead of working on my essay and i went from obsessing over the yearning to being pissed off about the male gaze real quick. also weirdly freudian (as all things seem to be). anddd really liked the main girl until she went on a homophobic rant for no reason! but it’s also set in 1920s berlin and published in 1943 so taking it with a grain of salt i guess
