It’s strangely encouraging to read Bonhoeffers dissertation sections, old sermons, and lectures that are heavily nationalistic to Germany. Whether it’s an inherited cultural assumption or a wrestling opinion for Dietrich, the Spirit of God moved this man to a different understanding. Praise God, that gives me so much hope!

May the church be ready to receive those the Spirit is leading away from nationalism.

Sorry Chesterton but I’m giving up on this one for the moment. Chesterton focus of Aquinas’ life was just not what I was expecting and I get what people mean now when they say he can ramble. I’m not giving up on Chesterton, but I’m putting this one away for a later time…

Ok, this one was enjoyable in part as Anna and I read it. But we actually switched to Brueggemann’s advent devotional instead last week🤷🏻‍♂️ What can I say? Walther knows how to write a short, meaningful reflection. Man I miss him…

Probably the most challenging of Hauerwas that I’ve read so far. A quote that stuck out with me: “No ‘text’ can be substituted for the People of God.”
