A couple of sentences in and I'm done for.

Can't stop, it's so brilliant, controversial, thought-provoking, challenging, and hilarious. First half 5 stars.

Not sure I'll ever pick this one up again. Too bad I won't ever know how this reads in original Turkish. But I might try and read an English translation instead, just to see if that's the problem. Otherwise, I don't really know how to digest this text, I keep choking on it.

Sticking with this because I wanna try to perceive the difference between European and Japanese literary narrative.

Progressing only very slowly, albeit skimming through dialogue and cheesy romantic scenes of the type from those 90s books with a couple in a passionate pose on the cover. Obviously very plot-driven, and I realize that's not quite my type of book, but I wanna see some more character development, and also I don't feel like that's a book I can DNF and write about, I have to really finish it first.

So far it's very reportorial, kinda sterile.

I guess we're still in the story setup here. And there's already romance, aww. You better be good, 4.58-star book, you better be darn good!

Male character driven war epic? House Atreides comes to "free" the Fremin while calculating profits from spice? Sound familiar?

I will never not give a Discworld book less than a 5-star rating, so.

Es zieht sich etwas inzwischen... Ich dachte, ich wäre bald fertig. Der schöne Text und der besondere Schreibstil werden mir langsam zu viel des Guten.

Bis hierher so gut, dass ich jetzt Sorge habe, es könnte nur schlechter werden :/

Skimming, mostly. Currently, the only thing of interest to me is finding out how Gladys got to be such a bitter backward bitch in the middle of that fabulous family line of women.

I might be a little hooked.

Peer pressure won, so I'm reading this after all. Indeed, the audiobook I started listening to while dozing off last night has misled me, it seems. I do like the writing, but I'm immensely triggered by this family and their carelessness and foolishness. Left the window open?? Handbag next to the bed?! You serious?! And their desperate attempts to have others then help them out of their misery. Let's see what happens.

I was surprised to find out this was a short story collection. Also by the fact that Joanne Harris writes, among other things, magical fantasy and psychological character studies?!
The stories are a potpourri of themes, characters, and styles. Having only read Chocolat, Five Quarters of an Orange, and Blackberry Wine, I had her firmly put in a certain box. How very interesting.

Ab dem Treffen mit dem Alten wird es so philosophisch und deprimierend echt, ich muss mir immer wieder vor Augen rufen, dass das Buch VOR NEUN JAHREN rausgekommen ist. Viele Themen zur KI wurden damals noch nicht mal so aktuell und konkret diskutiert wie heute! Erschreckend genau alles. Man kann z.B. seit neuestem Produkte aus Prime Video direkt in den Amazon Warenkorb legen...

2017 noch Dystopie, heute erschreckend real... Es wird also wohl doch nachweislich immer schlimmer.

The narrating was veeery expressive but I feel that I need more time to ponder on individual sentences. So I purchased a used copy online and I'm waiting for it to arrive so I can read it on paper.

Vom Autor gelesen, live und ungekürzt, so weit so gut. Weckt Nostalgie nach dem ehemaligen Twitter. Es gab viele, die dort etwas Ruhm hatten und versuchten, solche Bücher zu schreiben. Kling hat es mit seinen Buchserien nachhaltig geschafft.
