This one has a good start to it, the stage is being set. I like Blaine, he seems like a steady, calm guy that you don’t want to cross. There is going to be a lot of fighting in this one and I’m ready for it.

Well, Rye seems to be heading toward a final showdown to win Liza over. It’s been a really good back, classic L’amour storytelling… can beat it.

Rye’s reputation as a gunfighter is growing and he doesn’t necessarily like it, I don’t blame him… it’s caused him to have to leave 2 towns. He’s done a lot of traveling, I love to picture myself on horseback riding down the trail with little worries just going wherever the trail leads to. He’s headed back to Colorado to see Liza, Interested to see what happens there.

Like all L’amour books this is just a likable book. A good story, I already feel like I’ve known the cast for years. Rye the main character is a likable kid along with his mentor Logan and wife Mary. Excited to keep going deeper in this one.

Well, it’s still slow. I have to say it’s not living up to expectations. I’ve yet to sense anything spooky about this book just yet. Or maybe I’m missing the point, hopefully it picks up soon.

Well I’m 75 pages in and not much has really happened. I’m slightly disappointed so far, the build up is already lasting too long. The back half of this book is going to have to make up for the first half.

Well as I’d hoped, it’s starting to pick up now that she’s in the house. Another visitor has arrived, Theodora is her name. She’s more of a wild child as opposed to Eleanor. It’s a strange situation, 2 girls all alone in a mansion and the caretakers say they leave at 6. They don’t stay long after dark… that’s a red flag if you ask me. There’s something sinister brewing, I’m not sure what though.

Well this book is definitely off to a slow start. The author I feel goes into to much detail at times and that’s causing me to lose interest. It’s not a bad book just not what I expected. I find myself wanting to put it down instead of the other way around. It’s a horror and I’m reading it in summer instead of October so maybe I’m not in a “spooky” mood. I’ll stay hopeful though.

I’m thoroughly enjoying this book… I almost feel it’s going to fast. Tell deals with trouble with good ole fashioned humor. But behind it is seriousness and he will put a man down when he has to. It’s been cool to hear him and Cap’s journey together after hearing Cap and Tyrel in the last book.
I also really liked when he found the girl and took care of her, to see a rough man become gentle.

Well I’m not sure what to think so far. This isn’t the easiest book to follow for me for some reason. I could see myself become uninterested and stop reading it. Eleanor just arrived at Hill House and it seems like she did so reluctantly… with several chances to turn back, almost as a warning. Hopefully once inside the house the horror will pick up.

This is an easy reading book, very enjoyable. I like that it sort of continues from the last book… character and story wise. Tell is a hard man and one that can survive out in the wilderness. I really love the descriptiveness of the landscape, you really get a picture of it in your mind. Sounds like beautiful country.

Well, I’ve got 15 pages left and I’m excited to see how it ends. The trouble with Fertterson and Pritts is almost over concerning Juan Torres’ murder which means Tye and Drusilla can finally get married. But the last chapter ended on a cliff hanger, there’s been trouble in town and not the kind Tye expected. I have a feeling it’s something with Tom Sunday and/or Orrin. Can’t wait to finish the book.

Well I’ll tell you for sure… this book is great. Ole Tye is becoming a man and his brother Orrin is as well. It’s sad to see what happened to Tom Sunday though. Fetterson and Pritts are up to no good and causing all kinds of trouble. Torres was murdered in cold blood and I get the sense that Tye has had enough and he’s gonna put a stop to it finally. Him and Drusilla are still working things out.

Things are progressing likely, we’re getting late in the book and haven’t reached the climax yet. There several things that are in the works but haven’t been completed yet. There trouble brewing in Mora, and trouble between Don Luis’ men and Jonothan Pritts’ men. There’s obvious tension between Tye and Drusilla, they’re in love with one another but not sure how it will work. I love this book.

Well nothing crazy so far and nothing spooky. Just the plot being set up. It’s good so far, hopefully it picks up nicely. One thing that is throwing me off is the chapters are 4 pages long so far which is weird. Anyways I’m hopeful it will be good.

Well, this book is great… I love it so far. There’s a lot of suspense that leads to action. A touch of romance and a sense of trouble on the horizon. Ole Tye Sackett knows how handle trouble and has proved it over and over again. His brother Orrin is usually there alongside him as well. Tom Sunday and Cap Rountree are also reliable companions, It’s getting good and it’s setting up for a good eating.

Tye Sackett carries himself well, he can back down trouble when needed. In some ways he reminds me of myself… not thinking too much of hisself. Such as thinking a certain female doesn’t see him in any special way when in fact she does. So far this book is very reminiscent of the L’Amour books I read when I was in high school. Tye is realizing a lot of things about himself and perhaps his purpose in life.

This is the first Sackett book that really feels like a western, although I came to like the colonial era of the first 4 books. So far the storyline is good and seems to be setting up nice. I love the way L’Amour writes, and the detail he goes into. Tye went from Tennessee to Kansas in one sentence which was a little disappointing ting, I would have liked to hear some more about the journey.

Well I reluctantly read the 18 page intro which seemed massively unnecessary. Basically a load of nonsense and bullshit, I don’t know if the journalist needed engagement or what but I wish I hadn’t wasted my time reading it. So hopefully the actual book is good.

So, there was no segue between the last book “ Jubal Sackett” and this book. It fast forwards roughly 200 years, so the cast is completely new and the setting is also so far. It’s a good book but so far not as action packed as the others. We’re is Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Ohio Country… so very different from the mountains of Colorado as in Jubal Sackett.

Well I wasn’t sure quite what to expect with this book. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the first 2 chapters. It is based in the south (North Carolina) and it has a mysterious vibe to it… 2 things I like. The writing is very descriptive and detail oriented and the words just kind of flow off the tongue… it’s easy reading.

As I near the end of this book I find myself playing it in my head as a movie. It has a lot of similarities to “Last of the Mohicans” which I love. The ending is somewhat predictable but I don’t care, it’s still good and you never actually know. Jubal will have to save the day again or he will have to leave the area.

Well we finally experienced a battle, which was short and didn’t last but it was something. The “romantic” tension between Jubal and Itchakomi has finally come to a head, I can’t say to much so’s not to spoil it. The more I think about it the more I love this book. We finally got to experience Jubal traveling west which is a big deal. If all the Sackett books thus far were movies, this would be my favorite.

Chapter 26 is from Itchakomi’s point of view. She confirmed my suspicions when she admits that’s she is in Love with Jubal. I’m still really not sure the purpose of this book, although I like it. The ending is shaping up to be good, Itchakomi has to decide if she will go back home to the great river with her people or go with Jubal. There is also set to be a big battle to close out the book. Lots of suspense.
