How does a book sound like it was written in 2017? I guess it just reminds me of what I used to write in my google docs while in algebra 1 -- it makes me want to start writing again.

When does it get good?

I’ll be honest… as much as I like the first book, this book is underwhelming. I think part of the reason this is is because it takes place in the modern era. It lacks the charm of the 1940s.

Last reading session in my current house… moving out for grad school !

So far, this book is not as beautiful as Fried Green Tomatoes 3 I think this is because Ninny isn't narrating ...

Had to stop everything and read the sequel… it’s been a few days and I can’t stop thinking about Ruth and Idgie 🫪

Finished Hardboiled— didn’t realize hardboiled and hard luck are two different stories. Still, hardboiled was very good. I ish there was more to it (as I do any short story). I will definitely look into yoshimoto’s longer works

Very surprised with how this book is turning out so far! Very good :)

Scar! The first short story in this book that I felt something while reading it! Still , with its simple language and repetitive prose, I wanted something more. I know there are no happy endings in this book, but I wished that the protagonist of Scar had one.

Pretty lackluster. I don’t feel anything while reading these short stories if I’m being honest (besides a mild sense of disgust for the first one). I was hoping it would get better, but these are pretty forgettable.

A collection of short stories. “The head” and “the embodiment.” Both were just gross tbh

I’m trying to finish my notion tbr that I made in 2019?? Continuing with more Yoshimoto (lots of her on this list!). Hopefully this translation is better than Kitchen

Not really for me

There are some parts that I'm not a fan of (mainly saying mental health care is a trend or that everything is carelessly labeled as 'abuse' nowadays). Just got to a plot twist though. Hopefully it makes this book more interesting because it's not right now T-T
