Not really for me

There are some parts that I'm not a fan of (mainly saying mental health care is a trend or that everything is carelessly labeled as 'abuse' nowadays). Just got to a plot twist though. Hopefully it makes this book more interesting because it's not right now T-T

wandering story... bounces back from Eriko to Yuichi without really progressing. honestly confusing at points and the translation isn't good. the concept is cute though ☹️

Protag is very different from the rat trilogy... despite being the same person. I guess it makes sense giving that the theme centers around 'finding a purpose in life.' He is more erratic while in the rat trilogy he was melodramatic and moody. still, so far so good!

ok moody protag. definitely a different tune than the rat trilogy, and the protag sounds more depressed and mature than usual. i like the details of him wearing a mickey mouse watch and a keith haring pin though

Took a pause to read The rat #1 + #2. Now I'm back on the grind!

I read some of this before, but gave up because I got busy with school. I remember thinking it was a bad translation (which... I still think it is), but I honestly kind of like how dramatic/clunky the translation is- it makes me feel like I'm reading someone's diary.

From my understanding, this was written in English, translated into Japanese, and translated into English again... checks out.

I like it so far for being the 1st book Murakami wrote (and for it being the 1st in the Rat tetralogy). Still, reading Murakami's later work and then reading this gives me a bit of whiplash.

After getting half way through with A Wild Sheep Chase, I felt the need to stop reading it and read the first and second books in the tetralogy first. I was lucky to get an English copy of Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball 1973 fairly cheap!

About half way done and he finally started the sheep chase.

Anyway. I really enjoy the sense of melancholy that the mc eludes. He's also a diva. I like it 👍

Anyway Murakami might've redeemed himself- I could not for the life of me finish Sputnik Sweetheart (I might try to read it again now that my taste in reading has mellowed out a bit though).

Per usual, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. It's not a favorite, but it's refreshing to see Japan's ableism being called out for once.

Feeling a bit disgusted with it and just want it to be over... which is a shame because I loved the beginning and the writing style
