I’m so devastated and sick that this is isn’t fiction. Although the characters may or may not be real themselves, the events in this book really happened as a direct results of United States and Japanese imperialism. The world is just covered in so much blood.

It has taken me a long time to realize this, but I think one of the biggest differences between you and Lila is that Lila has sacrificed so much while you have only thought of yourself. Up until now, this wasn’t bothersome because you weren’t truly hurting anybody else but yourself most of the time. But now you’re putting a man who abandoned children before your own flesh and blood. Whyyyyyyy

Is it entertaining so far? Yes
Is it well written? Not really lol
Do I like any of the characters? No I literally hate everybody in this book. Millie included
Also the objectification and fatphobia is really digging under my skin, but hey it’s all in Millie’s fatphobic perspective I guess !

I’d recommend this book (so far) to anybody who loves captivating writing, art, music, stories, life, etc. I have a new found inspiration and admiration for so many different things I’m not sure I considered before

I am absolutely mesmerized by this beautiful memoir
