So far, very well written and interesting. Have been leaning towards reading autobiographies lately.

Dang! This is a struggle to get through. At 60 y.o., I’m barely training myself to put these down and move onto something better. Lord knows my TBR piles are enormous. I just feel compelled to finish books I’ve start though. I also recently read that it was her 2nd published novel… hmmm

Ooof!!! Why am I still reading this? 😞 trying to give Mrs. King her literary due, but this is a really bad novel. The rhetoric is so bizarre. The conversations leave me reading and re-reading to ensure I really read what I just read. Strange verbiage. It’s as if she’s overcompensating to stay in character through each chapter, or do they really converse and express themselves this weirdly up in Maine?

This book is excellent. It was written in 1950 by a lieutenant colonel whose job it was to train elephants in order to move timber out of the Burmese jungles. The mindset towards the care of animals was obviously different back then. There are some sad and abusive like behaviors, by the trainers towards the elephants. But take into consideration its age.

This memoir is very good. Inspiring. He makes bicycling 100 miles a day sound so fun and easy. Quite a few typos and one atrocious misspelling of a city’s name; I was dumbfounded. But I love this bicyclist’s account of his travels.

This book was written in 50’s(+\-) spoiler: some graphic mention of animal abuse deemed ‘medical training’. Very interesting historical account of elephant training and use of them as a means of transporting trees and logs from the jungles and mountains.
